Does anyone know the easiest way to remove the hood springs from the hood hinges on a 72 Demon???
Do you have to take the fender off first????

You can take off fender dust shield and get to the hinges that way but it still won't be easy. It is always easier to remove the fenders. I have popped off the top hinge before to run a fiberglass hood without removing the entire hinge.

The funny thing about science is that if you change one miniscule parameter you change the entire outcome to the way you want it.

when you say that you have "popped off the top hinge"...what do you mean??? and how do you do it??? The only experience I have had is with b-body type springs that are right on the hinge under the hood on 68-70 types...

remove the splash shield...there are 3 retaining washers that you need to pry off. I used a pair of wire cutters and "clipped/twisted" off. Get the hinge assy off and remove the spring. Not the easiest way but it is totally do-able. similar retaining clips/washers can be bought @ your local NAPA.

I removed the springs from my hinges and then re-installed just the hinges so they would lay flat for my pin-on hood. I use a prop rod for the steel hood.

Good Luck, hope this helps!

And to secure the hinge mechanism after you cut the old 'push nuts' off with the clippers, you can use a small, fuel line size hose clamp on the studs that the hinge pivots on. Use a good quality, stainless steep hose clamp, not some junk that will rust out in a few years.
