I Have a spare 1973 318 sitting in a truck and was wondering how hard it is to stroke with a 360 crank and either standard bore aor maybe 20 or 30 over? I would like to do this the cheapest way possible. Any help would be great.

Thanks Kurt

stroking with a 360 crank is not very cost effective considering the cost of a full 360 would be cheaper and yield mor inches.this may not be true however if you are a machinist?stroker kits for the sbm are around 1300 with excellent rods, forged pistons ect and yield @ 390 inches with a 318.

it sounds like you are somewhat new to mopars.ill give you some great advice.build whatever motor you have with whatever parts you have.all mopar engines run great and that includes a 318.there are combinations of parts that are better, but there is no bad way to put one together.enjoy whatever stuff you have and dont fret alot over trying to find a certain set of heads or intake.let me know what you have, what you are trying to do, and the budget in mind and ill give you some ideas.

Henslee makes 402's out of them. Hotroddave40 is building one. He sonic checked 2 340's and a 67 318. Guess which one was thicker?

318 strokers are pretty cheap to build. You can buy a 318 rebuild kit off ebay for $169ish plus shipping. Comes with rings, bearings, gaskets, pistons, and everything else. Northen Auto also has similiar kits at similiar prices that'll get you everything including a performance cam and lifter set. Machine work to turn a 318 into a 340 stroker(318 with 360 crank) is about $250 in my area plus boring if need be. This includes turning down the crank and rebalancing the rotating assembly. So youre looking at less than $500 for a completely rebuilt motor that comes in at just under 340 inches. Mopar Muscle just did a 'teen rebuild and it ran them right around 1000 bucks. If youve got a budget and a little know-how, its not very hard or expensive and makes a nice little combo!

A 30 over 318 with a 3.58" crank is a 349.

If you can get the machine work done for cheap you then need the stock rods and a set of Sealed Power LC371P pistons or Silvolite 1278 I think. You want a 318 piston with compression height of 1.658 or so. Use a stock weight piston and a stock 360 rod and external balance like the 360 and it'll fall together, don't even really need to be balanced for the street, The pistons for 318s and 360s are within 20 grams of each other.

R.

PS: There are new cast 3.58 stroke 2.500 main cranks out there, also there are 4" stroke 2.500" main cranks, and there are 3.94" bore 4" stroke pistons out there as well.

There has been a post on this on the Forabodiesonly.com site. Like Dog said. there is a cast piston that will drop in, and when I did a search, there was a set on Ebag for $130 with rings. It can be done cheap, but cheap is a relative thing. You will get what you pay for in terms of machine work. In any regard, it can be done.

Yeah here's one. Start a new thread instead of bringing back a thread that's been dead for two years. A 440 crank in a 400 block = 451, but the crank journals need to be turned down as well as the counter weights on the crank need trimming IIRC.

318 sounds good, you can find 360 cranks easy.
Should make decent tq and power..
if ya need one PM me

Ask your machinist how much to turn down the counterweights to 7.25" in addition to doing the mains, use RB rods to keep your rod/stroke ratio up, biggest expense would be the pistons & get the CORRECT quench distance & the final balancing.
