As some of you know, I've been sorting out the SS/DA Hemi Challenger. I found a World block which will be a 4.500 bore. I don't have a crank, rods, pistons, intake or cam. I'll be running stock cast heads with maybe some light port work. The car can't go faster than 11.5 because I don't want to put a roll bar in the car. It will weigh in about 3800 with me in it. Where do I go from here? Make it a 528? 572? Header size? Cam? etc.... I want to keep the dual quads with the shaker hood to keep it as close to the way it was as possible.

426 incher with a set of headers, small hydraulic cam. 3500 convertor and slicks should go 11.50.
I would go a 528 with about 10-1 compression and a hydralic cam. This will make it extremely streetable. No reason to spend money on porting the heads.

As far as I know, the last time it was raced was 1975. Apparently the rules were a bit different back then?

I just happen to have one from the T/A!! It should work right? Maybe i'll just find some heads where the seats are falling out of and use them? What do you think?

I don't know? I was 5 years old. I just know some of the history of the car and that's all. I'm here now looking for some education.

A friend of mine ran a SS/DA 70 cuda in the mid 70's with a bolt-in 3-point Lakewood rollbar. Try that today...

Around '74 the NHRA changed Stock class to more of a pure stock. Cars were allowed headers and slicks. With those steel wheels and small slicks, I would guess your car was in Stock, all the SS cars were mini-tubbed.

Why not cage it and be done with it, you are already putting an aftermarket block in it, so it is not original anyway.

Using a different block so the original one doesn't get hurt is much different than trashing the floor pans with a bar and support plates.

Chris:

This is what I would do...

Use a stock replacement block, (unless you have the WP block already and are committed to using it). Put a 4.15 stroke crank and a solid roller or just a plain solid cam. Little port work on the heads and run a Rat Roaster and a pair of Competition series Carters. Set of TTI 2-1/4" headers.

Should EASILY run the number, and you will have the Nostalgia look covered. I am fully aware that there are much better combos out there, this would really look cool on a car like your Challenger
