Fully ported and going into an a body... which would you choose for power 500-540 C.I range / Pump Gas 11-11.5 comp. and about .700 solid roller range......

Are you gonna spend the 12-1500 on custom, big tube headers, or are you gonna try to get by with a set of BB-A headers you bought used in the for sale section??

I have made over 850hp, with a set of Modern Cylinder Heads 440-1's and CNC ported work.
The track numbers dont lie

I couldn't agree more.

Not to fuel any rumors, just for my personal info, has anyone had any problems with recent Indy castings? (SR's, -1's)The last ones I did were years ago and they were heavily ported with zero problems. A friend of mine recently did little more than a clean-up and VJ on a new set and had a leak where he had removed no more than .020". On the earlier ones, and in the same place I had removed .100"+ with no issues.Just wondering if it was a fluke. I felt bad as I recommended them on the strength of the castings.

While B1 will ultimately make more power, how much is your budget?

I have the -1's with home porting, 498 and with a .640 solid roller made about 720hp.

The EZ heads will make plenty of power and the stock location exhaust ports might make it easier to find headers. The -1 heads have raised ports while the Victors have the ports moved up even more. The Victor heads require special rocker arms and they have some other funny stuff.

Any of those heads will make power, just have to work thru the list of pluses and minuses.

Hindsight is always 20/20 but I wish I had gone with the 325-1's on my build. I am close to 700 hp with my lowly 295-ez's though.

What headers do you have now? With B1's you'll need custom headers made which can be expensive. Personally, I'd go with the CNC'd 440-1 heads if I didn't have the budget to build a B1 or Hemi. CHIP

Ya, all of us are not as fortunate as you are to be able to have a low 9 second street car!

Of the choices, 440-1. Get them CNC ported, good rockers (not Indy), and for that CID at least 2-1/8" headers. Avoid the Hooker Super Comp fenderwell headers, 2" x 43" long...

Yes B1 original heads ported will make more power.

I forgot to mention..... I wanna run in the 9's ALL day long on motor and any heat is my goal meaning I dont want a 10.2 car and in october run a 9.90.... hope this helps..... I also have been thinking about a B1 setup... just trying to find the simplest setup to stuff into an A body car...

I have seen some of your b1 pics and some of you have braided lines in front of the heads going down into the block or something...

10.2 at 3800lbs I would think you were making more than 700 at the crank...

9.90 at what weight? any of those heads will do that with 540 ci. Do you have a short block already? Decide from that.

I was assuming an A body was 3300-3400 with a BB Race weight

I have had several quotes on short blocks and complete engines .... just trying to decide... the money is there.... decisions decision..

I dont wanna waste as much money as I did on my challenger build... however I did get almost $30k for a 72 challenger with a busted up front end
