Has anyone used one of these ? I just installed one in a customers 71 Cuda, It went in pretty easy however theres a few things I didnt like.

1 the hoses for the power steering pump were both to short.

2. The 2 U joints causes a ton of slop in the steering shaft that the bushing in the bottom of the column cant take up. With the factory box the shaft is pretty much held in place. Add the U joints and the shaft can move back and forth, about an inch of play which causes the column to bind up. I heim joint to hold the shaft in place will solve this. I feel it should be included in the kit.

3, They give you a clamp for the column. The instructions show it at the end of the column tube just past the fire wall. I have no idea what its purpose is supposed to be. It does nothing.

4. Headers. Hooker super comps dont fit. They say to use TTIs or stock manifolds. I like the 440 1-7/8" tubed TTIs but the customer wasnt happy to learn he needed to spend another $700+ for headers plus pay me to R&R the old ones.

In all honesty between the coin he spent on the rack, new ball joints, bushings, shocks ect, header and labor he probably could have put in an alter-K-tion set up and have been done with it about a month ago.

I knew a guy with a Unisteer rack on a '64 B-body. The turning radius was about the same as an old 4 x 4 truck. We took it off and put the stock power steering box back in.

I noticed it didn't seem like its going to have a good turning radius also.

I imagine the clamp in #3 is to fix the problem you had with #2 to support the shaft and reduce wobble.

I've heard no positive comments on Unisteer - but i've not seen/used one either. When I looked at options and balanced everything out, I decided to go with the Alterkation...

If you do a search on here, there are few good things said about them. I don't like alkerk for street drive either, but that's another story.

I was thinking of trying it until I found out the turning radius was even worst than stock.

My Crewcab dually already has a smaller turning radius than my RR, There is no way in this world I would even consider making it worst than it currently is.

Allen Here's a novel idea, let's not throw a bunch of parts at the car hoping it will fix the problem and instead spend a little time diagnosing it first. Life was a little easier when I was just a wrench.

Its a 2" diameter clamp that looks like an exhaust band clamp. I dont see how thats supose to take play out of a 3/4" steering shaft.

Check out what I have posted on these units. I installed one on my 69 Charger and had terrible results. I ended up putting my original system back on. Turning radius problems, bump steer problems, I had to purchase an oil pan because it did not clear it, I also had to buy the TTI headers, no instruction with the kit, and terrible customer service with tech support!!!!! search my post using rcannon440. I have run into others with the same problems.

Yeah this thing is junk. I can all ready tell its got no steering radius, I also had to install a heim joint to hold the shaft in place. Even with new bearings and bushing in the column there was to much slop for my liking. The owner of the car is not going to be happy with it which will probably end up being my fault even though I told his to stick with the stock set up or go with an alterkation.

Lots of guys on HAMB have the same issue with turning radius. Haven't seen/driven one, but general consensus is
