the turn signal flasher is located on the ash tray frame on several models. pita to get to at times.

I was going to say at like 6 bucks just get a new one.That and try the 4 way now you have one out.If they work you have the ts one out.If they dont work now you pulled the 4 way.I buy the new style flasher that are electronic.I find they flasy better than the old OE style.Rocky

The electroncs one are way better and will last longer and uses less juice to flash.

You say new style flasher, Is it entirely different? or just the way the new replacement parts comes?

Useally the cheap light duty ones are the ones our cars came with, nowadays they make electronic ones that can flash all day like in a mail delivery vehicule. They can be the same shape, but come in many sizes depending on how many bulbs you want flash. Any of the 2 prong flashers will work, but the round ones will fit your flasher bracket that attaches to the ash tray frame.

This may be stating the obvious, but with the steering wheel removed, it's more possible the turn signal stalk - and hence, the switch - will get damaged during setting the column down somewhere. Were you quite careful handling the column out of the car? The turn signal switch can get damaged in such a way as for the brake lights and hazards to still work, but the turn signals not.
I would check continuity of the wiring in the column harness with the turn signal switch in various positions to see if there is continuity in the appropriate circuits.
I don't know how to work my scanner, but check page 8-159 in your '72 FSM.
Turn signal switch wiring:
Light green - left front.
Tan - right front.
Pink - hazard flasher.
Red - turn signal flasher.
Dark green - left rear.
Brown - right rear.
White - stop light switch.
So, with the turn signal switch off (centered) and hazards off:
Continuity with white, brown and dark green.
No continuity with anything else.
With left turn signal selected:
Continuity with red, dark green, and light green.
Continuity with white, brown.
With right turn signal selected:
Continuity with red, tan, and brown.
Continuity with white, dark green.
A much easier way, if you have a spare known-good turn signal assembly, is plug that into the car harness. Then jumper the the batt and accessory terminals on the fuse block to power the turn signal flasher, and see how that works.
Another, cruder way would be as follows:
jumper the batt and accessory terminals on the fuse block to power the turn signal flasher. Then, touch a screwdriver to the brown and dark green terminals (which are adjacent) on the car harness to activate the left rear turn signal. This will at least tell you if the flasher is working...

Here's where I'm at:
I plugged into the battery on the fuse block and hooked it up to the red connection on the flasher and it works with left and right when using the turn signal switch.
What I don't know, is what does that tell me?

Jim you jumped 12V from the fuse box to the red input to the TS switch and moved the plastic cam up/down by hand & both t signals flashed properly(R&L) then you screwed in the stalk & used it to move the cam & they wont work. Am I reading this right?

Yes, That's what happened.
But, I started checking fuses and found my radio fuse was blown. I figured the turn signal went through one of the fuses, but I couldn't verify whether or not it did. Now I know it does. After replacing the fuse, the turn signal worked but wouldn't flash, when I replaced the flasher, it now works. I'm very happy.
Now, if I could only get my cigarette lighter to work. I've been testing it while it's been unattached, does it need to be attached and be ground to work?
