Hi-I seemed to be having lots of car trouble these days...

The Pitman arm seal (lower seal) from my Steer and Gear rebuilt power steering box started leaking again (I get between 5,000 and 15,000 miles between repairs). The folks at S&G explained I can do it myself by picking the outer seal off, removing the snap ring, removing the retaining washer and then starting the car and turning the steering wheel back and forth. The pressure is supposed to blow the upper seal out of the box.

This has worked in the past, but this time all it did was blow the rubber part off. The metal retaining part of the seal is still stuck in the box.

I'd appreciate some ideas on how to get the rest of the seal out. I'm pretty desperate right now

Thanks

I use a small slide hammer with a self tapper screw on the end of it , and carefully get it tapped into the metal seal area trying not to contact the shaft and pop it out . It might work for you or give you an idea for something else . Andy
