I got to see a lot of real fast cars 200 ++ and close to 300 mph jet car

the 63 {3500 lb car} ran 9.914 best et
best light .001 gave me tenth best in eliminations.
best mph 134.
I had to short shift the car until gears are changed so should see better..
shifting @ 6300 peak should be 6800
moved launch up to 4700
went thought finish @ 6850 rpm
jets up to 99 from 96's in the 1150 Dominator
the top end miss is GONE
60 ft times were mostly in the 1.37's
made some mistakes all in learning
have 18 passes on the car in the 1/4 mile.
won a round then the car broke.
come to fine out the head gaskets should have had sealer around the water passages which we didn't do.
got h2o in the oil so the party was over.
have new gaskets and a water pump on the way, looks like no other parts were damage.
I caught it before it got real hot for to long.
the top of the pistons look good.
heads are going to get checked at the machine shop.
Thank for all the help last week

Sounds like you had fun. To bad about the water leak. You going to try and race in Madras this up coming weekend?

Looks like your going to have a fun summer. Which head gaskets are you currently running?
Those Cometics are good gaskets, but can be a peta to seal the water passages. I had trouble with my Aluminum maxx block weeping water. I added some Bars stop leak and it quite.
I know the block was square and flat, Best Machine done the block machining, and Modern done the heads. I coated my head gaskets with Copper coat also.

yes should have the engine back together for this weekend in Madras if all goes well.
Cometic gaskets are what Indy suggested and they are the guys who told me to use the sealer this time around. Dang wish I had talked to them earlier.
have more gaskets on the way from them.

We are looking at the 572 heads and larger intake manifold which I though was on the engine but after taking a closer look it has the smaller ports.
The car is coming around even with a few set backs we are having a good time. Can't wait for the oldies but goodies back @ Woodburn.
This car belongs on the 1/4 mile track

Where would I find a larger {taller} hood scoop that would look good on the 63? It would be nice to have more clearance between the top of the carb and scoop, right now only an inch or 2..

The heads were warped and needed machined .04,
we were not using ARP studs, nut and washers.
Indy recommends them instead of the ARP bolts.
The machinist said the heads were walking on the gasket and started to show a groove around the cylinders. I received the parts from Indy so once we clay the piston to valve clearance its time to go back together. {changing the camshaft will come later}
This really was a good thing taking the engine apart and inspecting parts, four push rods were just touching the head when the valve was fully open so a little filing was needed for clearance.
If all goes well the 572 should be back together for the weekend.
We also noticed the intake gaskets were protruding into the ports a good 1/16 of an inch so we will trim the new gasket for a better fit.

426 !!!!!!!!!!! never heard of 440-1 flowing that much air..mine are 345cc that have been CNC"d and are flowing awesome numbers at 389 @ .800 my cosin's 572-13 only flow barely over 400 cfm..thats why i was asking if you were looking at buying a set of 572-13's cause of the money and small amount of head flow gain..i know you can run a bigger bore with 572's but 440-1 can be run on a 4.5 inch bore too.. you may want to check with Indy(like they will tell the truth)cause your flow numbers are way off...i thought you mentioned your intake runners were the smaller ones once you looked closer..is that the fact ?? they are the 325cc runners???

The numbers I gave are what the owner said they flowed? He could have been wrong about this? That's why I posted this to find what others say
I wonder if Indy keeps records?
the intake gaskets Indy sold me are the smaller of the 2 they sell but will need to be trimmed to fit correctly.

Question:
cast iron 500 mopar block
Indy heads
roller Bullet cam
says to adjust .026 HOT
what would I set the valves @ cold to start the engine?

do you have a pics of your heads??? cause if you have the smaller gasket and still need to trim them, then i would be worried what you really have...I Bought all my stuff from Indy and like their products but the guys there are very short with people and if you catch them on a good day , then you may get some help..BUT, unless i have lost my mind, there is no way on this earth that those heads flow over 400cfm...all CNC"d heads are marked on the end of the head as my picture reflects..FLOW SHEET ATTACHED

look at the pic of my head above..if your heads are CNC"d then they will say so on the edge of the head..it will tell you what you have 325cc or 345cc heads..if it is not maked then you have an older set that was probally hand ported..maybe he said you were flowing 326cfm not 426..if so you may have a set of Indy SR's they too will show 440-1 casting in the valve train area..the difference between the 325cc and 345cc heads are one has another pass made with the CNC machine..But you can measure the intake runners if you like..i'm sure there are plenty of guys who can confirm the size for you..mine are at the shop getting cut for bigger springs..

my heads are the 440-1 for sure but I don't remember any markings like on yours but I will look closer this pm and mic them for size, I did this when we ordered gaskets from Indy.

checked the valve to piston clearance all good,
have the heads bolted on and torqued down.
I discovered some contact on the shafts of the pushrods so will have them taken to Smith Bros in the AM for repair.
Come to find out too long intake bolts were used causing the push rods to grind the ends of the bolts off. I am real glad the bolt were stainless at least not as hard as a steel bolt.
Still not a good thing!

The dimension of the heads are 2.25 intake valves
1.80 exhaust

intake ports 2.632 tall 1.457 wide
exhaust 1.637 tall 1.917 wide.

should have her all back together by Saturday but it ain't running yet.
