The clutch type that originally came in the 742 cases and it is rebuildable & the clutch packs for it are cheap

Yep. If you look closely, the pinion shaft of the 742 case is solid, non-tapered, and is the thickest (all-around from top to bottom) of all three cases (741, 42, and 489). The pinion shaft of the 742 is not much smaller than the Ford 9"

if it's factory original sure grip equipped it will have a clutch type instead of the POS cone type

I think new gear sets for that case aren't as available anymore but as Moparforlife said the sure grip(I almost typed posi ) unit itself is the good one & will fit any of the other(742 or 489) cases.
