Like it says above, will a 1.625 valve spring work on a -1 head without modification?

That is the same spring I was going to use on mine and the machine shop told me they wouldn't fit in the pocket.

the pocket will need to be opened, and watch that the edges can get thin and will "peel" later. Make sure they blend any thin areas so they cant break off later on, My heads were opened up to get a 1.625 spring on there

I think now I am going to order new springs and retainers in 1.550. I already have some titanium retainers that are 1.625 and wanted to find a spring that would work in the pocket unmodified and fit the retainers I had but comp discontinued the spring that I found. I really don't want to modify the pocket for the reasons you mentioned.

Juiced,
I'm sure there are guys who've made it work, or gotten away with it. I wanted to use the direct bolt-on T&D rockers, and they told me to avoid being forced to use thiers, or Jesels, individual pedestal style, which require machining of the head, I should NOT use the 1.625 size. I went with 1.550.

The spring cups needs to be opened up, actually the as cast spring cup machined in the heads needs to be omitted. Then you can use any steel spring cup. Im 100% the 1.625 spring will require clearance work with T&D rockers. I used the Jesel 1.7 setup, and worked great.

I have the T&D 1.7 rockers (direct bolt on), so your saying that they will only work with a 1.550 spring?

i use the bolt on T & D with my 1.625 springs, All it takes is a little massaging on the bottoms of the rockers where they come close to the springs/retainer its not that much really, that and you may need to use a lash cap. Thats all i did
