I am involved in engineering an awesome '65-'73 C-body lowbuck big disc brake swap. One "historical" fact, however, is just beyond my grasp: During the '65-'73 run of C-bodies, did the factory move the front hose frame bracket location, or was it constant?

If someone has a '65 and a '73 (even wrecks) and they are located identically, that info would really help (and will be passed along to the huddled masses). If the location did, in fact, change, any info re: where and when, would also be great appreciated.

Thanks,

Rick

Rick,
Disk and Drum brakes had different locations. I also believe that the Budd disks had a different location compared to the later disks. There is enough slack to relocate the bracket slightly when doing a conversion. Look on www.cbodydrydock.com there is a tech article for brake swaps with a lot of info on difference between the early/late systems.

Thank you
Aaron

I have a '67 Chrysler with drums and a '73 with discs. I'll check for you tomorrow.

This is a '67 and a '73, but I'm 99% sure a '65 would be the same as a '67.

They seem to be in the same approximate location, but the '73 mounting tab is maybe 1/2" lower and about 1" ahead on the frame. I would assume this would apply to 69-73 cars, but it isn't a very big difference.

I know the 68 plymouth fury and the 73 fury had hard lines in different places between a drum and disc car.

No way could I make the stock 73 fury rubber lines work when I moved the disks over.

I had a budd disk brake car at the same time, but don't remember for sure where they were.

From the 2 pix posted, they look close but "no cigar". I would not at all be surprised to see a year/year difference, but I would be floored if they were different disc/drum on the same year - sounds like a production plant nightmare!

What I will probably do is spec out a few different length hoses and advise the installer to do a mockup with a price of wire or vacuum tubing before buying the hoses, and do an update as the data comes in from you guys (which I TRULY appreciate).

Anybody planning a 65-73 C-cruiser disc swap, you're gonna love this! (and wait until you see our Auto-X 74-up C-bod in the issue that will hit the stands very soon!)

Thanks again,

Rick

I can't wait to see if it's the truck/van spindle swap like I did...

I did the 73 disk swap to my 68 Fury and used the original hard lines. I needed longer hoses so I used the ones from Russell's for a 70-72 Charger #694050. It even included the rear hose.

So Rick,
What's the lo-buck secret? Or is this one of those 'how to keep an idiot in suspense' jokes?

You can expect him to spill the beans right here. Or give someone else a head start into copying what he did and trying to compete against the product.

I did a fairly low buck front and rear disc brake kit for Rocket Restoration's (C body) Lemons race car last year.

The front brakes were easy. I made a pair of billet aluminum caliper brackets, so second generation Viper calipers will bolt on to original '73 style rotors.

The same DOT stainless flex hoses I use in my other brake kits worked.
