So I was reading an article today that says a bronze gear is no good for the street...Has anyone else had this issue or is it false? They were pushing some carbon poly thing from Comp, but even said they have failed a few times with high volume oil pumps...any input or solutuions would be great.

I put 19K miles on mine. Took it out and put a flat cam back in. I saved the bronze gear in case i go back to roller.

How hard were you on the motor? If that even makes a difference...

I had the same questions several years back, one of the employees at Crane Cam had a stroker BB in a 1969 Road Runner that they used as a add for the one lap around America race several years in a row. That motor had, according to Crane, 77,000 or so miles on the original bronze distributor drive The reason that discussion occurred is I was looking for a two piece(stock oil pump gear on the front, solid roller biilet the rest of the cam) cam core for a solid roller street cam project Crane had them for the Ford and Chevy motors of course but not any our brand

Thats interesting. The article that I read mentioned checking the gear everytime you change the oil...

I inspect it when I tear down and have yet to replace
it in any on my engines and I turn it higher than most
guys which should wear quicker
