I've been reading through the forums quite alot and finally decided to just make a post and hope for some advice. I've got a '67 440 out of an Imperial that's on it's way into a '67 W200 for truck pulls. I plan on driving the truck regularly and therefore keeping it streetable. Just looking for some suggestions on some minor upgrades before I drop it in. A rebuild is out of the question for this season so mainly looking for some bolt on help.

My class rules will require pump fuel which is 91 locally, pull 14" of vacuum at 1000 rpms, electric fans allowed, and exhaust reaching behind the cab with some sort of muffler (headers allowed). A few other pulls I'd like to hit this year will require a factory cast iron intake.

So far I have a Holley double pumper 750, crane adjustable rockers arms and electric fan. Hoping for some suggestions on a cam and any tips or modifications to the intake for better flow.

thanks for the input,
Corey

I went from 14.30 to 13.80 in a bone stock 67 GTX by adding a Summit 488 cam... pulls plenty of vacumm and worked well w/ the stock stall and 3.55's. I'd say what you have plus some headers would realy wake the 440 up.

Cheap easy great cam is the .528 mopar. It'll pull great vacuum and rpm as much as you need--6500.

As for pulling torque I'd go with Lunati's 60301 or 60302 cam. Very broad torque range but I'd recommend an 11" motorhome torque converter (built very stout usually painted grass green). Probably a hotter ignition system too. don't use a car performance cam because your torque will drop off rapidly below 3000-3500 RPM which is when you need it the most... At the end of the pull.

If the intake is a 4 hole style you can modify it into a "twin oval" set up with open right and left sides. Adds a little plenum volume and allows the air/fuel to make a slightly gentler turn into the runners.A port match to the heads couldn't hurt either. Do the heads have the 1.6" exhaust valves? You could go up to the bigger ex. valve for a little gain.Recurve the distributor to get all the timing in as early as detonation allows.Play with carb. spacers.

Remember to use shorter plugs if you have 915 heads

run as much initial up to 1000RPM as you can (light springs) to build vac which will allow a wilder cam then monitor the curve. Stay on top of the detonation situation & you'll need lead for the non hardened seats (unless you've redone them). If it's not a claimer class you can sink as much money into it as you want and unless prohibited in the rule book ponder any mod that will get the most quality (homogenized) mixture in/out & good ign & lightened reciprocating assy. Out think em! and post how you do & how many furds/chebbys you beat

set you initial at about 16* and have it full in at 2200 at 38* (no vac advance)

Right? I usually don't catch things like this either.
