Well I hurt the motor over the weekend . 1st impressions are a damaged or holed piston.
I'm wondering how much of an over bore can a 4.50 KB sleeve take? Since I know KB isn't really doing buisness anymore are replacement sleeves available?.
I know some of you guys run 588ci's on Indy and KB blocks so is that a 4.560 bore with the standard 4.800 bore spacing or more stroke?
Thanks in advance.
Tig

I'm at 4.565 on a 4.5 bore and 5" stroke KB no trouble yet. Less stroke would just make it better.

Thanks for the reply Darren, that opens up my options a bit. Are you @ 4.800 bore spacing?

Mine is 4.500" bore. Ken Black told me it would go to 4.530". It may be fine to go bigger than that, but I'm not sure. CHIP

Just taken the head off, looks like the piston has just broken up. I think I posted a pic of a piston not so long ago where there was signs of detonation. This is the same #1 Piston and it has broke in the exact same place. Combustion sigs on the chambers look spot on (except #1 of course). Looks like the previous lot of detonation has damaged the integrity of the piston and it has just let go

Note the nice even carbon covering on no 3 chamber, no detonation there.

Ouch!!!! Note the distortion on the fire ring.

Remember this, the red felt pen mark is where the damage was.
