Ok I've got a question about upper coilover mounts. Mine (see attach) are mounted on the frame but I have talked to two people that say I should move them to their own seperate crossmember but niether could tell me why. Will it work the way it is or do I need to change it?

Now we can see what your asking about. When i put in my ladder bar/coil over set up i called competition engineering and asked about shock placement and angles, the guy said to get the shocks as straight up as possible for best results. Mounting off the frame isn't your problem its the angle of the shocks, but that's just what i was told and seamed to make since to me.

If it was mine I would just put two tabs on each side of the upper shock mount and weld the tabs to the frame and put a bolt through it all and it would be like being on the cross member only turned opposite from the way they are now.

I see what you need. Something you now need to consider is that the upper and lower shock mounts are also your suspension mounts. Meaning it has to support the weight of the car as well as be a means of dampening it movements thru your shocks. If the mounts are not rigid enough for the weight of the car in a dynamic situation as in launching the car, how can they be an effective tuning point with your shocks and springs. The shocks should be as verticle as possible and the mounts need to be sturdy. If it were mine, I would look at what your buddy told you. For as little work as it would take, you could eliminate any chance of the upper mount flexing. It looks like it is a stud off the frame rail which would give it place to flex by design. Hope this helps. Beep

Something else. Tell me you are still building. I don't see any brakes! Beep

I would consider moving the upper shock mounts outwards. By doing this you will achieve two things...
1) It will get your shocks more verticle.
2) If done right using a tab design you will increase your strength. It will be less likely to break, or flex like the stud mounts you currently have.
