My buddy's mechanical Race Pump died today with only 5 runs and less than 20 street miles on it. He's going to hook up his Holley blue pump so he can take it to a car show this weekend, but we don't think it will be enough fuel to feed the Valiant. He wanted the mechanical because he hated the ultra loud whine of the Holley pump. I have Mallory Comp 140's on my cars and they are much quieter. I was thinking he needed at least a Mallory Comp 250, or would the 140 be enough? What other ones are fairly quiet? Thanks.

Yep. Last weekend. Vaccuum pump was pulling a lot of oil out of the motor until he switched valve covers around. Spinning pretty bad at the launch. It made 5 passes with a best of 10.33 @ 131 footbraking, spinning, and 30 degrees timing. It's got a lot left in it yet. He's thinking the rear springs are too stiff. He's going to get it scaled and put some lighter springs in it to get it to plant the tire a little harder? Garber helped him a little at the track. We don't know much about suspension set up.

The 140 MIGHT make it but would be better with a
larger pump. I was thinking he wanted to hit a show
or something like that... with a temporary pump, thats
why I said keep the revs down

Ok. Thanks Mike. He's just going to put his Holley blue on for the show. We know it will work for that. He won't be racing with that pump. Too small and makes to much noise. Temporary fix. I was just wanting to figure out a permanent solution. I think I will steer him towards the Mallory Comp 250. He's also toying with the idea of going to E-85. I wonder what the difference is between the standard Comp 250 & the alcohol version? Besides more money. Could you run race gas through the alcohol one until you switched?

don't hold me to this but i "think" the difference between the alky and gas pumps is only the seal and possibly gaskets. personally i think the comp 250 is one of the best electric pumps out there.

You dont need a alky pump for E-85, a standard pump
that will support 30% more volume than gas will work

What do you think about e-85 availibility ? I read in the newspaper they were closing 3 plants here in Ohio? They were saying cost factors were more than gasoline?

Here in Mich its still cheaper than regular and still
easy to get... I get mine at Meijer. Being that the
fuel prices are heading up again I think you will see
the push for it again. Its still MUCH cheaper than
race 110(by ALOT)
