I'm sure everyone is sick of hearing about my problems, but anyways my transmission is leaking on my automatic Dakota. It was recently rebuilt. Its coming out of the shaft that the shifter and kick down go onto. The guy who built it said its coming out of an overflow. The tranny is not overfull. The only thing I can think of is, I installed an aftermarket cooler, and maybe its running down the lines and overfilling it when its off, but something still seems wrong. I have fluid all over my driveway and i'm sick of buying fluid at $6 a quart. Anyone else ever have this problem?

Clen-it-off with some brake-clean ... let it dry ... and sprinkle some baby powder on it.

Any leak will show up directly.

Don't guess at the source of the leak, get a can of spray brake cleaner, clean off all of the fluid and then use a mirror and flashlight to pinpoint the source of the leak.

If you're absolutely sure it's coming from the shift shaft and it was recently rebuilt the rebuilder should take care of it. The seal should hold any overfull condition.

it could be from a cracked brass fitting at the line going in the tranny leaking down to the shift selecter seal...

rebuilder should have changed it,might have, could have been damaged putting the vb back in

and there are 2 seals at the shaft, selecter shaft seal and the throttle presssure valve seal, most times the tpv seal is over looked

I would be at the tranny shop

and double check the lines, are they tight, have rubber and clamps any where in the lines

the vent would blow it out and be in the bell housing and slung around by the torque verter, looks like a front seal leak

have a dust cover on it?

Definatly coming from the shaft. The guy who built it did it out of his garage. Here's the latest. He won't return any of my calls so I guess i'm screwed. So much for my 1 year warrenty. Its going to a mechanic at the end of the week, because I looked at it, and have no clue how to replace it, and I don't want to mess anything up.

The outside one is pretty easy to do. You don't even have to pull the pan.

They make a tool that screws into it to pull it out, and something like a deep socket to put the new one in.

Which shaft is it ? ... and to do-it-REALLY-right ... the valve body should come out.
