Looking at some pics of Dave Walden's hemi cuda and r/t challenger and noticed the hemi cuda has clamps at the h-pipe/resonators and the challenger is welded. Dave, did you learn something since the cuda, or are hemi cars different?

Challenger is a 440 car. 440 headpipes had the resonator welded to them... Hemi H-pipe had resonators clamped.
Pictured is an NOS 440 headpipe with welded resonator.

Would anyone know if the 1970 340 pipes were welded or clamped to the resonator?

What about other engined cars?

As far as I know only the 440 headpipes had the resonator welded. In the past I have owned several NOS 383 and one side NOS 340 headpipe and neither had the resonator attached.
Of course the ones I had were NOS and not assembly line. Parts books indicate otherwise, but I know of and have seen an original exhaust 340 Cuda and the resonator is clamped on it.

340, 383, and 440 were all welded. Only the Hemi was clamped

That is kind of what I figured, makes it easier to install engine/drivetrain, was dreading installing the H pipe, than removing it to weld the resonators, than reinstalling the heat tube with the engine in, than nicking the paint
Thanks for the input

Thanks Terry. I thought that they were welded. My original mufflers and over the axle pipes came with my car, but missing the head pipe and resonators. I suspected that they were welded and all my pictures of orig 340 cars do not have the pipe/resonator area!

Thanks Pete. I thought so.

Then we have this...383 dual exhaust Cuda pipe 3404876 without resonator as per parts book, 340 pipes are offered the same way, with or without...
Since this thread deviated a bit from the original question, with all the input so far it is safe to say assembly line exhaust should have had the resonator welded on 340,383,440 and after Ola's Hemi pipe picture

71 383 Challenger R/T welded. I believe these are original factory installed. IIRC, SPD Feb 1971.

Clamped axle pipe.
