I purchased one of the USCarTool bolt-in A-Body driveshaft loops to put in my 67 Barracuda. The car is kind of a bastardized step-child with a non-original drive train, 1970 340 with a 4-speed though I don't know what it originally came out of. I don't believe the engine and trans came out of the same doner.

Anyhow, I went to bolt the driveshaft loop to the transmission crossmember and something just isn't right.

The flat mounting surface of the driveshaft loop doesn't mount flush with the crossmember because the transmission mount is in the way. Looking at the cross member, I began to think it was in the car backwards (tranny mount to the rear side of cross member), so I took it out to turn around.

This is how it was in the car, as you can see, the tabs on the crossmember are to the rear side, not allowing the bracket to flush mount.

But after getting it out of the car, it became obvious to me it won't go in the other way because the tranny mount doesn't have enough clearance to be turned 180°.

I either have the wrong bracket for the loop or the tranny mount or crossmember is wrong.

Any Thoughts????

FYI...
The numbers on the transmission case are

Does your tail housing have 1 shifter mount pads or 2? If 1 where is it located , in front of trans x member or behind it?

Sorry, I forgot to attach 1 photo of the tranny mount itself. as you can see, it wont turn 180° It's 1 pad with two bolts and a wedge shaped mount with a big bushing. The bolt through the cross member and bushing is to the rear side of the crossmember.

I just spoke with John at USCarTool and he suspects it's a later 4-speed mount and it may not work with the mounting bracket. He's going to take a look at the photos and get back to me.

Just saw your picture , yes that is the later model mount , you do have the correct trans tail , luckily it's an easy fix all you need is the earlier trans crossmeber and mount .
