Honestly, if you can, go with a CSR. I've had two chrome water necks and both warped A TON with barely any torque on the bolts. I have a brand new WP housing, gasket, and silicone and I still get a little bit of a leak. If you can't afford a CSR, just try a billet neck with an o-ring.

The excitement is in the curves.

draw file it to take the chrome off & use it, it might work Ok & save from purchasing another one but DO keep an eye on it.

Take it to the lake, and chuck it as far as you can...

After I gave my chrome housing a sail, I cleaned my factory original housing, painted it orange to match the engine, and haven't had a leak since...

I tried 2 different chrome ones on my 318, everything was flat but they both leaked. I picked up a cheap cast one from a part's store and painted it, sealed the first try and has'nt leaked since.

I surface all the thermostat housings before
installing NEW and Used for a flat surface or
removing the plating from the housing for a
good seal. You can also do this on a flat surface
with a piece of 60 or 80 grit sand paper and
lap or sand the surface flat.

I run the same chrome housing for 12 years now

I filed the bottom with a flat file and let the RTV setup overnight before adding water - never leaks that way.

Good - no leaks. Also had good luck with the cast iron ones from the parts store.

My chrome one was leaking and corroded badly so I got a stock cast iron from the parts store but the bolt holes are too small and too close together to fit on my Edelbrock alum. manifold. It's a 318. Anybody know what will fit?

I have a 318 with an Eddy manifold. The factory original cast housing fits perfectly...
