Milodon hi volume pump, BMP aluminum block. I assembled it last summer, dyno'd it, then put some runs on it. I hurt some bearings and scratched the crank, so i took it apart, put in new bearings.
I went to prime the oil system and found a half quart of oil under the car. The pump was removed to clean the block, but was reinstalled with the same gasket type. Now it leaks! Not just a little, i had at least a quart pour out as i primed the motor. I tried a new gasket. Same BIG leak!
Then i spotted it. A little dent on the pump body, and no day light between the block pump surface and a bolt boss on the side of the pump that was against the block.
A little grinding, same gasket, no leak! I am totally baffled on why that interferance didn't cause a leak before.

Good catch now...it may have not been ideal before. Hard to say exactly why from here. Nothing ever seems to work out of the box for me it seems but it is what it is.

This is Chrysler-World, where nothing fits, is 3x more expensive, takes 4 months to arrive, and nothing is quite the way it seems.

Yep !!! I ran Tubular Automotive headers on my small block Dart for years , first a used set then a brand new set.. after they wore out two years ago I ordered a brand new set after waiting awhile because of " supply chain " problems , I had them coated and tried to put them in the car and they fit poorly , part of the steering was hitting them as well hanging way to low with hardly any ground clearance and I had a hard time slipping the collector on. I spoke to them and they didn't understand either as they knew my application and that I had used them before . They wanted my to bring the car to their shop in Mass. to try and figure out the problem but I ended up selling the headers after they repaired a tube that was damaged by the steering.

Wow, that definitely shows signs of interference.

Not a Milodon oil pump fan myself.

Melling HV pump with the Milodon plate is all I have ever used.

I had to grind mine also to clear on Indy block.

[Linked Image]

Also had to grind pump to clear their own pump cover.

It seems like sometimes the more it cost, the more it takes to make it work.

Not just a Mopar issue I race and pit with 2 Chevy guys one runs an LS and the other a traditional small block…their stuff doesn’t fit either, seems like almost everything requires some sort of “adjustment” to fit properly…

One more issue🫣 the oil pump driveshaft got bent in the process. Had this thing leaked and shown me the interferance before i ran it the first time, that $220 part would not have gotten bent. Again, like i stated in the first post, it sealed and didn't leak last year when i first ran it!
Luckily my friend Leigh was watching when i fired up the motor yesterday, and saw the distributor housing ocilating. It was moving
about 1/16 inch every revolution. We figured it out when i put the older, worn pump driveshaft back in, and the wobble went away. I spun the bad shaft in a drill, and sure enough, it was bent at the hex drive .
