Vortech supercharger was spun at almost double it's max RPM and let go. For how far and wide the shrapnel went, it's amazing no one got killed or seriously injured.

Window seems to be acrylic rather then polycarbonate material.

What was the failure? Chinese grade 8 fly wheel bolts or did someone not torque said bolts?

Ive always liked that guys attitude and outlook. As for the cat like reflex comment... watch any slow mo explosion where people react. The debris has flown past them, far past them before they even start the reaction motion.

Folks got lucky there.

At 28:06 in this latest video SM talks about what happened and why.

July 19th should be "Drive Like Rockford Day". R.I.P. Jimmie.

For those that don't want to watch the video:
So lets turn the blower at nearly 2x the max rpm and wonder what happens?

Max RPM rating for the blower was 65,000, when it self destructed, the recorded RPM was over 105,000 RPM.

Oh! Look! it broke this other stuff too!

Well DUH!

You got the carnage order reversed. Flywheel bolts broke first, disconnecting engine from absorber/load. Engine immediately went to 12,000 RPM followed a millisecond or 2 later by the compressor detonation.

Similar to a transmission front drum explosion.

It's better to keep your mouth shut and give the impression that you're stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.
