something like a late model belt system ?
as my charger still has the 55 year belts, i'm feeling a little apprehensive about their safety factor, considering the age of the thread and webbing.
and please don't get me started on the "two year belt rule" courtesy of the nhra................ flame
i prefer the original buckles, as i don't really like the "big red button" on the late model stuff.
can a late model set of belts from a ??????? be fitted, or is the solution a new set of original belts or a universal setup my best option[s] ?
a big TIA to those that can offer any advice to me on this subject. bow

I bought a set a few years ago because the roads are getting very dangerous. I decided I didn’t want to ruin the stock look since my car is all oem. They are supposed to bolt into the factory location for the optional shoulder belts. They’re black, I’d sell them for less than they cost new. I got them from the big seat belt place, can’t think of the name right off.

I want my fair share

I put a set in my 51 Plymouth. I think you'll like these. They even have two shade of brown.

A buddy of mine has what looks like the tan ones, in his '70 Dart.
The reels are pretty huge, and running that extension bracket, the reel pivots around and isn't secure to the rocker like a normal OEM deal.
As a "bonus" the damn thing can abrade the door trim panel.
Relocating the anchor point would help his installation out, but so far he's against doing that.

I can't help but think that a later A OEM setup would be much better, but they apparently aren't easily found in good condition.
Maybe the factory relocated the rocker attachment point for the later cars ?
A-bodies are a lot tighter than B-bodies in that area.

Those are pushing 40 years old, not sure I'd trust them in perfect condition.

Haven't checked in years, but I would think somebody can re-web them.
About 3-4 months ago, I happened to test some from 1993, and they worked. Granted, newer than our hobby cars.
Not something I recommend, though.

The problem I see is that a static test tells you little. The material the belt is made of gradually deteriorates and when it's needed is when it's most likely to fail.

Maybe you can get them rewebbed, then you's be good to go. But in today's litigious society who does that anymore? I remember some time back a lawyer type got on here trying to get the collective to ID some 30 year old flex fan that had failed and threw a blade. The consensus was "it's 30 years old, subjected to who knows what damage over the years, go away". I don't think he ever got an ID.

Guess I wasn't clear enough: tested by wreck. Killed the car. Walked away.

Agree on the litigation problem.

Sharon’s web can redo seat belts. Also there is one like Snake Eyes or Snake Oil that does it. I checked about having a set done by Sharon and it was like 800 bucks to do all with shoulder belts if I supplied the cores. I gathered about half a set so far.

IIRC, it was Snake-Oyl, in TX.
One of the less persuasive names for a company, but funny.

I did but via different seats. (chrysler 200 convertible) Being a pillarless hardtop I didn't want a belt going up/down from the ceiling. The seat mounting is anchored through the subframe connectors.

I have used these in several street rods and have never had a problem.

Recommend U stay clear of SeatBelts Plus...
These guys are flakey and dishonest..
They say the belts are in stock and take your $$. When the belts never show up, it takes multiple follow-up calls.
Finally got a response. next they sent out the belts, no internal packing housings were broken.
Called back for an RMA, got more more BS..
Chucked the defective belts in to the dumpster..

Just my $0.02... wink

"U.S. stock" ... not U.S. made !!

They seem awefully damn cheap ... I think I'd put more trust in my 55 year old belts !!!

That looks really good. Most modern seats look too tall and just off even more so in a hardtop
