Here's a cheap and easy backup camera option for E-Bodies.
My Challenger has the stupid SE rear window, that along with a small floppy passenger side mirror makes for a terrible blind spot.

I got this on Amazon for only $35, and it works great. I wired it to be constantly on.
Added a Velco strip so it can be easily removed, and ran the hard wire through the interior to plate.

I can now see cars beside me, may need to tweak the aim for more bias towards passenger side.

Pros:
- It's cheap, only $35
- Hard wired, looked at WiFi options, but all reviews complained about phone issues
- Helps with blind spot, along with the usual backing up
- Easily disconnected for removal
- Nice 4.3" size screen, fits perfect in ashtray
- Did I meation it's cheap..........

Cons:
- Have to leave ashtray open, although it comes with suction cup for windshield
- 140 deg view angle, 180 deg might be better for blind spot issue
- Had to mount camera on front side of plate because of the factory license plate light interference
- Drillled holes in ashtray mount and trunk for wiring. My car is far from original, so this didn't bother me

Those cheap back up cameras are good for about 4 years if the vehicle sits out in the weather. The camera lens starts getting foggy and the image gets blurry. Still pretty cheap back up views. Might want to pick up a second one to have on hand as a replacement when needed. You get pretty used to them, and I only use mine for backing up.

I mounted the view screen up by my sun visors (with a home made screw on bracket) and ran the wires along the windshield pillar. The suction cup thing is worthless. I don't even have an E body, they work on lost of stuff.

I have a more expensive one (Furrion) on my camper and the lens got all blurry, I had nothing to loose so I wet sanded my camera lens with (I think it was ) 600 grit and now it’s clear again. Just a fine polish was all it needed to remove UV or whatever was making it cloudy. Sounds scary but it worked…..found that info online somewhere.

I have one on the back end of my 48 Plymouth coupe. The one on the coupe has been there for several years, I might try the 600 sand paper and see if it helps.

I really need to add one to the back of my pickup too.

If this thing last 4yrs, I'll consider that a win.
I just may buy a spare, for the price it couldn't hurt.
I'm hoping the connector on the camera and display are standardized.
I'd hate to have to redo the wiring in the future.

Great idea! I've considered one for my 73 Cuda too. I may pull the trigger on this mod.

Would you mind sharing some of the wiring details? Mainly, what do you use as trigger to activate the camera in reverse?

Thanks!

the back up cameras I have used all pull the reverse power from the tail light back up lights. You splice into the vehicles back up light circuit. Then any time the back up lights come on, the camera is activated.

FWIW: The 2019 Escape I bought to replace my dear departed Pathfinder has a BU camera.
I don't rely on it, though it's handy for right behind the car.
Still gotta use the mirrors and look over my shoulders for the folks that like to dive-bomb past a backing vehicle.
Plus the ones who can't look up from their phones as they walk past a moving vehicle.

I use the back up cameras so I can see what is behind the center of the vehicle which is often a blind location.

We have all driven vehicles where the rear view mirrors, and even including the outside rear view mirrors, leave a very large area of 3'-4' behind and often from side to side that we simply can not see if there is anything back there or not. The back up cameras provide another view we may not be able to see any other way, a forth view that wouldn't otherwise be available. Even with that extra view, it would not be responsible to not still use caution.

For instance, the widest point on my 48 Plymouth coupe is the rear edge of the front doors, and the rear window is pretty high on the vehicle and its pretty narrow. The view through the the inside rear view and both outside rear view mirrors pretty much leave you guessing if there is anything behind you, or how far back it might be. That rear view is about the same as most E bodies, and several 70s models of B or C body cars as well, and even most step side pickups. The license plate back up camera view lets you at least see what is directly behind you. They are great for parking.

To me that is a pretty worth while $40 or even maybe a $100 investment.

Completed engine and trans upgrade and will be driving the car a lot more.
Backup camera is something that's almost mandatory with traffic.
The camera is powered by ACC feed, so it's always on.
I found myself staying in right lane or leaning over to make sure something wasn't beside me before changing lanes.
Just going to take a little stress out of driving and not worry about banging up the car or someone else.

Agree with this completely ...

I want to add a backup camera to my 98 Dodge Ram , the 2018 F150 I had it made backing up to the trailer a breeze.

I like that one, but hoping to find one with a USB powered cord. I use a plug in with 2 USB ports and voltage meter in the old car.

Plenty of options, sounds like this would cover you.
Too big to fit in my ashtray though.
Hard to find a higher end solution with a small display.
