My fuel pump quit working the other day so I’ve got it up on the rack to work on it. My problem is that I have no power to the plug for the pump itself. I’ve got a signal from the fuel guage but the two wires to the pump have no power. I’ve checked the fuses and replaced the relay with still no power with the key on. It should have power correct or is there a computer or sensor that is in this link? A bad wire is not a good though to hunt for. Any help is appreciated.

Title needs proofing or reset the 22005 model year, unless this is a back to the future wink Anyway I think there is only momentary power for a second or two so to the fuel pump Connect a light to the fuel pump and see if you get a momentary light flash or power.

You'll likely only have power to the pump when cranking or running. Pretty sure the ECM needs to see crank position in order to run the relay. Have someone crank it while checking for voltage

You can also run a 12v power to the fuel pump to check it too.

If you have no crank sensor signal fuel pump relay won't close (no power to pump) quick ck if you see any movement in dash tach. Also quick ck would be to beat on tank while someone is trying to start it. If it fires up yea bad pump. These are just quick parking lot tips.

Assuming “2005”……. First thing I’d do flying without a scanner is to spray some brake clean down the throttle body. Engine starts you know pcm, ignition is working fine, which leads me to my next primary suspect….. TIPM.

As was already said the fuel pump only runs for a few seconds while cranking or when the ignition is turned to run (depends on the car).

Once the rpms reach a certain point it kicks on full time.

Always check for spark too. No spark & no fuel is probably not the pump.

Check for voltage while someone else tries to crank it. If you get voltage for a few seconds but the pump doesn't start it is the pump.

You could also check for voltage at the relay while cranking.

I have also hot wired the pump through the relay connection to test the pump. Also a great way to empty a gas tank filled with diesel by a friend's daughter too.

Thanks for all the help guys. I was able to test between the power and ground wires and get momentary power when my son cranked it over. So it’s a new fuel pump today and she should be fixed. It was not the original pump anyway. I replaced it once with a spectra pump and have had trouble out of the fuel guage not working intermittently.

I have good luck pulling the bed rather than the tank.

Every truck can be different but for mine its fast and easy.

Unbolt the bed, unplug the the taillights, undo the filler neck and lift. A few blocks of wood and jack stands under the bed keep it up..

Just a thought.

Fixed it right up. Thanks guys. Yes. Pulled the bed off with my lift. Biggest problem was crawling on the ground getting the bed bolts off. Forgot what it was like in the old days with no lift.
