The 4 door really could have been called Coronet this time around
Show me anyone 40 years old or under who would really understand the significance of the "Coronet" name. Go ahead. I'll wait. It's a dead name. Same as any other option: Diplomat, Intrepid, Monaco, Stratus, Spirit. Stunning how I've heard the crying about a four-door Charger for nearly 20 years now. Get over it. They made one that was a Cordoba with a different set of taillights and another that tried to butch up an Omni. But those are somehow better because they are two-door? Yep that be true. Besides what I think most of this generation buyer thinks when Dodge says they came with a new charger, they think of this for their Hornet.

Because it looks like a 73 coronet from the side lol, only reason. And they drug back Dart, so a lot of your argument is moot. Use an old name a few people still remember or spend a few hundred million on telling everyone about a new name. Its the only reason they called the 4dr a charger back in 2005, it had strong name recognition in focus groups. The car was supposed to be called Interceptor, Dart was to be called Aria

The car was supposed to be called Interceptor, Dart was to be called Aria Dragging back old names with historical relevance (Charger, Challenger, Dart) was meant to hook onto the retro muscle trend that swept through in the early-to-mid 2000s. See also: Pontiac GTO, everything about the Mustang from 2005-forward, the fact that we almost got a coupe-utility out of GM before Pontiac was shot between the eyes. That's just marketing. If you're seeing a 1973 Coronet from the 2025 Charger, I don't know how. The argument of Coronet v. Charger is this: if you are going to dredge the past to name a new model, there had better be a positive response to the use. Charger fit the bill in 2005 because it was the return of V8 power in a rear-drive chassis. Dart could've been a great compact with performance potential (think AWD SRT-4 replacement). Coronet is best remembered as a taxicab that was used until it was dead before it was replaced by a Crown Victoria. It was the basic model. The forgotten one. That'd be like calling the next smaller Ford CUV the Tempo, or Chevrolet's upcoming Maverick-fighter, the Biscayne.

No, it wasn't, its fact. They went with Charger on the Dodge 4 door back in 04 because it was projected to save them over 200 million in marketing costs. Its why they all did it, Impala, Malibu etc. Same was with the dart, nothing to do with legacy, everything to do with who could connect the name to the Dodge brand in focus groups. With Charger it was 70% and Dart must have been high as well to slap it on the car they did.

Both of my boys know all those names. Ages are 36 and 31. Get over it, why because you accepted it. Yeah sorry not happening. With that said the new Charger is as ugly as all the ones they've been producing for approximately 20 yrs
Ok

I bought two 2023 Hellcats. I'm good.

Man, I think you guys are a tough crowd They are under CAFE restraints and trying to still build exciting cars. Obviously, tastes vary but at least these don't appear extremely odd or polarizing. Personally, I don't particularly care about the names, just the car itself. Stellantis isn't emotional, they are a company in a competitive market trying to stay above water. Rising costs, competition, more regulation and other factors drive their production. I also see nothing wrong with the Hornet. They MUST be in other markets that most of us don't care about in order to survive. Look at Camry and Accord. Boringggg, but huge cash cows for their manufacturers.
Facts are stubborn things.

#1 WORST selling vehicle....the Dodge Hornet. They are small, expensive and not very fuel efficient. What's not to like

BUY.... Nobody is buying electric vehicles! I believe I read here that a car company benefits from making and offering electric vehicles just by making and offering them for sale to the public. Selling them is not even important because just having them available to buy alleviates the punishment from the EPA for making what internal combustion cars they do make. I didn't research this but it makes sense. Why else would they keep charging head first with releasing electric cars that NO ONE wants? On top of that the car companies and fan boys announce the new electric arrivals all hysterically happy - like the teenage girls passing out over their idol worship at a Beatles or Elvis Presly concert.
Keep old mopars alive.

Its interesting to read how this is all playing out in Europe. They are ahead of us on the curve of EV's. They are 3+ years now into the EV's being forced on people which means cars that were 'bought' (on leases) are now coming off the 3-year lease program and NOBODY wants to actually buy them. So, they are piling up and sitting in lots as they try to figure out how to make the turd sandwich more palatable and actually convince someone to buy them. Total failure. You CANNOT mandate choice.

They look pretty good to me, but it's unfortunate they fixed the styling just in time to wreck the drivetrain.
I'm alot more excited about the depreciation on used Hemi Challengers, though. Maybe the right one will come along one of these days (or not, and I'll save my money for more important stuff).

From an industry article:
It’s no secret that Dodge does need a few high-volume mainstream vehicles to make an impact on the brand. After the discontinuation of the brand’s volume vehicles (Grand Caravan and Journey) in 2020, While the Hornet does feature best-in-class performance numbers and standard all-wheel-drive (AWD), that C-UV segment has never been one that prides itself on performance. Instead, most customers looking for a C-UV are looking for something based on value. The Hornet is one of the pricier vehicles in its class and the data shows that, with an average transaction price of $41,114.
Nobody saying it's a POS, just expensive for the class.
I'm not interested in one myself, I'm just saying these sales figures don't mean it's a POS.
Facts are stubborn things.

The 4-door version looks like someone (Ralph) lowered the roofline on a 2000 Chevy Lumina.
I am not rich...but I get off my ass everyday to make sure I am not broke!
Can we get the Mexican cartels to help us with our supply chain issues? They don't seem to have any trouble getting stuff from one place to another.
