At 1st I cut out the shock tower leaving the shock mount hole intact and welded 2 tabs to the underside of the shock mount for bolting the shock in.When I had the "J" bars installed it made sense move the shockmount to the j bars.
If I didn't do something with the shock tower then I would have to drop the shock to get the Valve cover offf.

I installed a Hemi in my 70 Duster 40 years ago. Standard valve covers, no k frame spacers, Hooker 2-1/8” race headers, trimmed the steering column jacket, used the std. master offset adapter, notched the k frame for the race pan, and used the same technique Hurst did on the 68 cars for the shock tower - used a BFH. I did notch the steering box and moved it over a tad for more header clearance. That’s it.

Handled like a dream at 10 0’s and 133.

Its not rocket science for sure, But i want to get all the mods done and looking nice. No hammers involved. Im not at liberty to share some pics that were sent to me by a gentleman over on B bodys(MALEX). He installed a 572 Hemi into a 68 Dart. The work that guy did is simply top notch. He has some skills at fabricating and painting. I would bet his car could pull $100,000 if he were to sell it. Its that nice. He took alot of that inner fender and then reinforced the shock bracket. He used the stock BB K and steering box, but suggested to me to use a aftermarket K if i could. We both have the tall Stage V valve covers. They demand some room to use them. That is the reason the MC conversion bracket needs to be raised. I will be attempting to copy his mods. This is a long time project that i will maybe start next year and complete 1 to 2yrs after.

Good thread guys....

I found it pretty easy to install my 572 with Indy heads in an Aussie A body....whose engine bay is identical in dimensions, K frame bolt holes, inner fenders, suspension mounts etc to a US Demon/ Duster.

I used a HDK front end for a US A body and it went straight in as well, ostensibly other than the steering rack its exactly the same for the Aussie A body. In terms of fitting the engine in the bay, shock tower clearance etc it was easy. A little massaging of the sheet metal at the shoc tower but nothing radical or crazy and TTI E/B body 2 1/4 headers went straight in. grin

I did center the engine and putting it in was a snap even with the wider Indy cyl heads/valve covers.

I did away with the wiper motor and MC in the engine bay and mounted both under the dash.

Some pix...

Does the aussie A body have an advantage because the driver is on the opposite side of the US A body ?

There you go. A bit out of order, but you get the picture. You can see how the MC block had to be moved up and how much material needed to be removed for the big covers. I would like to do the torsion bar/coil over conversion, but without buying the whole front end kit, it’s hard to do. Seems a road block around ever corner. MALEX made it happen using torsion bar and steering box. So can I if need be. May just do a tube K and keep all the original stuff. I have the 6 cylinder K, so a tubular K may be for me.

Yes, I have the book. Some interesting reading, but these pics are about as good as it gets. MALEX is a very helpful guy. He gave me some great advise on the Victors BB heads as well. He uses the same head on his 505. We run very similar times, but his 64 B body is about 50# heavier than my A.

My fab skills are not that good, but I will attempt to duplicate his work.
