I've had a couple of trans blankets and neither of them fitted well, PITA to install and fouled the shift mechanism until I built a bracket to hold it off . I have a CSR trans shield which is a much better fit but the strap also fouls the shift mechanism, again I fabbed a bracket to clear. Unfortunately the CSR shields are pretty tough to find.

Wrap both ends of the blanket around the torsion bars. Bend a small metal strap to hold in place. You'll need a little brace off one of the dust cover bolts to hold it off the header, left side. This is the easy way.

Also, Victory Nostalgia super stock racer darn near lost his foot a Eddyville some year ago. His shield turned into a yellow ball of kevlar yarn, and did NOTHING to protect him. The gas pedal did more to help. Good luck!

Proper parts should be job 1…. My opinion their shouldn’t be a 727 on track with a stock drum, but you do you smile . Personally I’d want the blanket properly strapped around the trans. It would take some “robust” tabs around the torsion bars to keep the blanket from deflecting. I’d think the blanket would be better at “absorbing” the energy than the CSR shield. I run the CSR as it covers both the “trans shield” and “flex plate” rules. I still have my old Lofgren blanket for way back that covered the “critical” area of the 727. There used to be a picture floating around from his shop that had a “used” one that had caught the debris hanging on the wall.

I fully expect the blanket to be slammed against the floor in a drum going bad. . Throw 5 pounds of metal at it at speed and its going to move, probably wrap around the piece. I have a steel A&A drum, and I agree with you on the aftermarket for the track. I have seen the results of a couple of these and its not good.

I haven’t used them, but, DJ Safety has some smaller type blankets.
