So I built this 70 340 swinger several years ago. Bought it when I was 14 for $800 and really only got it finished when I was 26, working on and off over several years. Built it to how I wanted it. Originally a F8 Green, white top/stripe, with low line bench interior. When I bought it, it had a 360/727, but still had the 340 manifolds and 3.23 sure grip. Other than that, it was a barn find. Rode hard and put away wet. I later ran across a 70 340 short block and proceeded to build the car as I wanted. Except didn't add the 4spd I had. Sold in in 2010, pretty much as seen, to fund my A12 purchase. Crazy it could sell for $40k today at Mecum. I suspected around $22k for a non -numbers car. Its a nice car, but driver quality IMO.

I like 70-72 Darts, so I checked out the link but it doesn't show the green car you are talking about building. This one is FY1 Yellow and the fender tag says its an automatic.

Were those changes part of your build or did some other changes happen to this Dart after you sold it? Just trying to clarify.

Yeah I was wondering the same thing ? But to try and answer the question everything is going up all the time. Including our age and in some cases time is running out. Can't take the car or the bank account with you so if you injoy something go for it. Who cares?

The truth, not just Swingers going up. Now I don't know if the prices of vintage cars are rising disproportionately to inflation but I think it's probably close. I remember really nice Swingers at $10k in the 90's and early 2000's. But then how much was a dozen eggs then?

I love the '70 Swinger 340's and still really like up to '73 Swingers with whatever engine.

I guess I should clarify, that I had it painted FY1, and built the way I wanted it...other than adding a 4spd. After I sold it, somewhere along the line, a new owner installed a fake tag. When I sold it, it had original E70-14's which were ancient, but had the look.

In 1980, my parents had a 70 340 swinger, FC7, buckets, console, black interior. I had always wanted one similar when I remembered that car. Hence building the yellow 340.

Thanks for clarifying. My wife and I daily drove a /6 '72 Swinger for a while in the 1990s. It was also FY1 but with a white interior and white top. Very cool car, but the original tiny drum brakes were good for about three hard stops in heavy San Diego traffic and then you had to do a lot of swerving and dodging.

We both miss that car, so I periodically look at prices. There is another yellow 1970 340 Swinger advertised on one of the major old car dealer sites for $39K but it is supposedly matching numbers and maybe a little bit nicer than the Mecum car. Personally, I think that the price is a little high but as others have said... stuff just keeps creeping up.

around 10 or 15 years or so ago, my one buddy bought a duster shell from [supposedly] arazona.
in my opinion, for what he got, he paid way too much for it.
i donated the drive train, [a low mileage -35k original mileage- truck 318, and a rebuilt unknown source 904, a driveshaft to cut down to fit, and conned a buddy of mine to donate a B-body rear] front disc brakes, and a bunch of stuff i'll never use for the cause.
when it was done several years later, he confessed he had around 36-38k in it, body work, paint, interior, wheels and tires, all done. lots of donated work by myself and another couple of good friends.
it's a very nice car, but at the beginning of this project, i thought he could have bought a similar car for half the money, as i had seen a couple of pretty decent dart sports and dusters in the 15-18k range for sale.
but now, in today's market, it's almost impossible to buy anything for under 15k that doesn't need a bunch of work, so when you are done with your project, you still have 30-35k+ in it !

I really was not a big fan of the 70's, but they kind of grew on me over the years.

About a year ago I sold a pretty nice FC-7 4 speed for around 38K. It sold in one day.

I currently have an EV2 4 speed survivor for sale now for 35K.
I have had some interest but people tend to want nicely restored cars instead of the original paint car with some bumps and bruises.

These little cars are a great package with a 4 speed. They run good and are fun to drive.
