I hate my mattress. Ex wife picked it out. I sink in it and hate it. When we first got it, it felt firm. Is there a good firm mattress out there that does not sink in after a couple years. I like some flex, but this one sinks bad if I push down on it. I can get a rock hard one and a topper if need be. My back aches when I get up. I sleep on my side, back, and stomach (toss around alot). I don't want to break the bank either. Thanks.

I can't pick a mattress for you, but I can offer this: Big Lots has the exclusive contract to buy Sealy Serta closeout mattresses. You can get last year's models for discounted prices. If you have a Big Lots near you, check it out.

Slightly higher priced but well worth it. She has her side and you have yours. My first one lasted 10 years (replaced it with a bigger one) and the one I have now is on it's third year. After a number of spinal fusions this is the only matteress I found that doesn't leave me with backaches.

Pop over to Sarnia and go to Sleep Country. You don't have to buy there but they have a large selection you can test out. It wouldn't do you any good with them BUT they have a 90 day exchange deal which we took advantage of - no questions asked !!

We have a Sleep Number, for about 15 years at least, great bed. Highly recommended, if I ever replace it, it will be with another one.

HIgh margin item with a lot of sales. I've had best luck buying name brand stuff at 50% (or more) discount because last year model, showroom model, slight staining, etc. Find a local mattress place and try a few to see what you like. Once you know what you like tell them that you're not in a hurry but you need a good deal. A good sales guy will figure out how to sell you something.

I've not slept in my own bed for close to a couple of years now for this reason. I usually sleep in the next room in what was my sons bedroom before he got married and moved away.... But as of late I've been in the other end of the house in the laz y boy recliner trying to kick sinus/bad head cold. I don't toss and turn nearly as much in the sons old bed or the laz y boy and actually can sleep sound all night.
We bought our 1st set of mattresses that were still great when we dumped them "because they were getting old" at 18 years old, and are on our 2nd set of replacements since / each of which seemed great at the mattress place but weren't for long when we got em home and actually tried to sleep on them... And we paid good money for each of those sets.... I want my original set back.
We have a queen size bed and one or the other of us can sleep "ok" But not great/ diagonally on it, which doesn't leave room for both of us... I do pretty well in the twin XL in my sons bedroom. We can't afford another set of queen size mattresses at the moment so we have been sleeping separately. When I try to sleep in the queen bed I keep my wife up because I toss, turn and get up and walk the hallway too many times a night. I don't do so in the twin bed or the lazy boy.
But as our grandson stays here sometimes and is outgoing the pack n play, he's gonna need the twin bed.....
When we go to the mattress store and try different ones, the last 2 sets my wife "gives in" to what feels better to me in the mattress store but since we put a mattress topper on the current set, she sleeps good there but I only sink on my side like a hammock and if I don't get up 2-3 times every night I can't move in the morning because i hurt so much our 2nd set was apillowtop and neither of us liked it for very long. Current set is a "firm" but like I said from my waist down seems like I'm sleeping on the edge of a hole

I may pop into Sleep Country in Sarnia after work one day. As far as a sleep number bed, I had one and hated it. I have some places written down to check out and Big Lots is now on the list.

Glad to see I'm not the only one. Wife had fusion surgery about 4 years ago. Decided she had to have a sleep number. She loves it. I hate it. Glorified air mattress. Never woke with a stiff back until we bought it. Tried all the various settings with no joy. $8k wasted in my mind.
I'm like you and like firm mattresses. I'd sleep on the floor if the dog hadn't already claimed it. Best mattress I ever had was bought out of a warehouse without a sign for $200.

I bought one of those Amazon mattresses in a box for my trailer and liked it. Just the right amount of comfort. Good to see your experience.

Mattresses are the sort of thing I hate shopping for mainly cause I'm cheap and it takes me forever to make a decision on what to get Nd how much to spend on it nervous

I looked at the tag on the mattress and googled it. It is a 4 out of 10 for firmness. That one is going to get junked soon. Didn't realize it was that soft on the scale.

Finding a comfortable mattress can be DIFFICULT!!!!!

My wife and I have very different ideas on the definition of a comfortable bed. We actually couldn't agree on the matter, so we kept the old mattress to long. I developed some back problems as a result of sleeping on that old, bad mattress. My wife lives with constant pain due to one of her health issues, so finding a comfortable bed was very important for her.

We shopped literally every mattress store within 50 miles of our home. We couldn't find anything that was acceptable for both of us. As a last resort, we finally went to the sleep number store and found a bed we could agree to buy. It cost more than a regular mattress. My side is set on "100". It's Ok, I'd prefer a little firmer, but my back does well with it. In our situation, we bought the lower priced sleep number because the more expensive one had a thicker foam on top of the air chamber. My back did NOT like that thicker foam! That made it to soft.

We have had the bed for 4 years. We have had to replace one of the air chambers due to it leaking air. A few weeks ago, we had to replace the pump. So far, the items have been partially covered by the warranty. Sleep number claims their beds last longer than a regular mattress. I'm doubting that any of the original components will still be in the bed 15 years from now. I could be proven wrong though.

Sleep number charges more for an adjustable base than many other stores. I do NOT know if their base is a better built unit. It may be possible to save some money buying the base from a regular mattress store and then purchasing the mattress from the sleep number store.

If I was single, I would have bought a different bed. In our situation, it was the only bed the two of us could agree on. When a person needs that type of bed to get a good night's sleep, the price becomes less of an issue. The aches and pains that often accompany growing older can limit our range of acceptable choices for a bed. If I had it to do over, I'd buy the sleep number bed again. It's not the perfect bed, but it is the best we could find for our needs.

Our original ones were "clearance" from our days of both working at Sears.

Our 2nd set came from a local mom and pop "home store"
Our current set came when Carson's closed their doors got what we thought was a good deal because my mother in law worked there 30+ years and we were able to get her employees discount. It was great for about 7-8 months then it started to suck, my back kills me if I sleep in there. It didn't at first.

My wife talked me into a Sleep Number bed a couple of years ago - she had slept on one in a hotel & loved it. Now, we both HATE it.

Most comfortable mattress I've ever slept on was a polyester foam one by Jamison Mattress - I think they are in TN. I spent 3 nights on one of those in a hotel in Louisiana a few years ago & it was like sleeping on a cloud. I felt like I was suspended weightless - there were NO pressure points & I slept like a baby - woke-up each morning with NO body pain. It was amazing. Reason we did not buy one is it had to ship freight to us & seemed a little expensive at the time, plus since they have so many different models, I was not sure we'd get the same comfort as the one in the hotel.

I always bought beds in the mid range "softness", After the years go by they get like what you are describing. I happen to go into a bed store just to look around. I told the guy "i was cheap" and didn't want to spend a lot on a bed. He just happened to have a bed in the back that was new but had a small rip in the material at the corner. This was a firm bed, Couldn't beat the price he gave me and have been sleeping in it for years now. Definitely check out some firm mattresses and see what you like. Then try to track down one with a discounted price.
