Besides, the dash frame, steering column, and upper windshield trim, where else was Suede paint used? Was the ash tray? 3 speaker dash grills?

Thanks.

Look in the TSM, it has a full listing of what style paint was used where and the color codes,

Yes, '68-'70 B suede was also used on the ashtray.
If 2-speaker grilles are metal - haven't seen those in a LONG time - they'd have suede.
I have names & #s from a couple of the original paint suppliers if that helps.
But most jobbers either can't or won't be helpful in translating the info to their current product.

Thanks for that info. Interesting that it says Ash receiver for for suede paint on A bodies, but doesn't list it for B bodies.

I've seen discrepancies for some finishes on those sheets.
So far, I've always had original parts to confirm.
Every single 68-70 B I've owned - more than 15 that I can think of - had suede ashtray paint.

I'll add that the original suede finish had a sandpaper-ish texture and no gloss.
Application should be "dry", if that's an adequate description.

And it is very difficult to remove paint shop dust from suede finish. I recently had these painted with OEM suede paint at a paint shop: dash frame, steering column assembly, ash receiver cover, glove compartment door, AND (not mentioned in FSM for Plymouth A body) emergency brake bracket and fastener that attach to the dash frame. The dash frame was left uncovered after paint for a few weeks and accumulated a lot of dust. The only way I could remove it due to the sandpaper-ish texture was with soapy water, high pressure rinse, and blow dry.

On a slightly different topic regarding not suede finish but "Interior Gloss Finish Colors" as opposed to "Exterior Gloss Finish Colors" used in the interior: I believe the factory's use of interior gloss finish colors was a way to save cost by having cheaper paint with lesser ultraviolet protection. Both are exactly the same color - one is just cheaper and less protective than the other. For example, if the upper door frame is green, it is painted exterior F8, but immediately next to it, the quarter panel upper garnish molding is painted interior F8. To keep it simple, I'm using exterior F8 for both.

In the photo, both greens don't look exactly the same after 55 years, but when new, I believe they were the same.

The use of suede paint was to keep the glare down on the windshield. Anything shiny in that area would be horrible to look at in bright sunlight. Never understand why people paint dash frames the color of the car...

As for the 2 different colors of F8 Green on the Barracuda, it comes down to different painters. Amount of coverage, different batches, etc. All can make the color different.

I painted my dash frame last night, and am more than happy with how it turned out. I had the dash powder coated black, scuffed it down, and then fogged in 4 coats of Rustoleum Textured Black. OEM perfect? No, but it's close enough for me. I used the correct Suede for my Blue interior, in my Road Runner, and the difference is hard to tell. I'll have to get some pictures out in the sunlight to show the detail.
