Maybe he means the 277? The 277 was offered in '55 and '56 and could be had with 2 and 4 barrel carburetion. It was of course, a Polyspherical engine. Hard to believe there's also a 301 and a 303. The 303 (and it's cousin, the 313) were Canadian/Export-only engines. Interesting point is that the 303 used the 277's connecting rods.

Your source material is substandard. Right out of the 1955 Plymouth factory service manual 4 different cubic inch motors for Plymouth only in 1955 This must be the first time my memory has failed me, maybe being ten years old in 1955 and the lack of massive information availability to us back then may have led me to believe that what I had ASS U ME was wrong, SORRY :blush AKA aside I was sure that all 1955 Plymouth had inline flathead sixes in them, no V8 in them in 1955 OH WELL :
