I'm in the process of building my first car with a motor plate. I want to run an alternator as the car will see some street use. What are you using for an alternator and mount? Was looking at the AR engineering setup but it looks like the Doty crank pulley recommended is no longer available.

Pulleys are pretty easy make. A decent sized alternator case is deeper than the front surface of the motor plate. I'm assuming a big block. That being said you'll have 3 choices. Mount the alternator below the plate. Cut a good sized hole in the plate for case clearance. Or mount it to the k frame. It can be forward or backward makes no difference. It's easier to mount on the passenger side do to the oil pump. If you are using a crank trigger and or vacuum pump all needs to be sorted out at the same time. Doug Pretty much exactly how I mounted all of my accessories. Made most of my own FEAD.

And I made my own pulleys. Setup is just a little different now because has a bigger alt.

What one are you looking for ?

Another option which I did on my old car, grab the Chevy bracket that mounts to the side on the block where the fuelpump attaches and use a turnbuckle to the framerail for tension
71 demon stock stroke 440/indy ez-1 running 10.10 @ 132.14 mph in the 1/4 and 6.36 @ 107.46 mph in the 1/8 not in the same weekend but It did it then I sold it. 67 Belvedere that worked it's way in the 10's

I used Andy’s alt mount with a 90 dodge truck alternator. Welded a tab to the frame rail for the tensioner. Looks like doty still has pullys on their website. ?

I have a bunch of this stuff that I was going to put up for sale but haven't gotten around to it yet. Shoot me a PM if you want it. I can also sell you the AR Engineering parts at the same time if you want.

how many amps is the alternator you have now ? what size are you going to ? 70 amp Denso mini. But the output is very low at idle (35 amp). Going to a Denso 118mm 150 amp that will put out 60 at idle. Doug

Mine is a East Coast 150 Amp and does just fine even on street all day with dual 2000 cfm (4000 cfm) fans, an Aeromotive 3000 fuel pump, and all lights on at night.

In summer heat car ran 20 degrees cooler when back to the pits because the pump and fan spun that much faster. Affinity laws at work........
