I believe either or maybe both AndyF and Streetwize have experience with that intake.

i have four of them,mw size. 3 on 500" motors, and one for my 572. they work really well on a street car. not so much for the 572 thou, its to small. i have never seen one modified for a dominator. i dont think it would be worth it.the upper end flow would not be enough to take advantage of a dominator, imo.

I have one that has been ported and opened up to max wedge port size. Seems to work well. Here is a pic of the flow sheet for the intake.

I ported mine to MW and per Roger Helgessen's guidance went "one step beyond". My 517 runs pretty darn well and spins to 6800 with 370+ CFM heads and a Pro-systems 1000HP. I'm considereing something like an 1150 Dommy if I can get it tweaked right for street driving, I really want to see if there's anything more left inthe manifold by removing the possibility that the carb might be holding it back, I don't know of anyone whos's run a bigger carb on one than that . It's a nice peice and it fits under the stock hood, and the torque is 'off the chain' even at 5000+ RPM.

You can see Darryl's flow numbers 380-ish that pretty impressive, more than enough t omake 700HP, and on the street a dual plane with that kind of potential and broader torque/powerband might be something to consider if you don't want to run a ton of gear and stall in your combo. I think the last Indy single I worked with on a bench (several years ago) would flow about 400-410.

Darryl, what does Rogers text in RED say at the bottom?

I can't make it all out

BTW, the crank I got off you is gonna work out AWESOME!!

Hello Bobby glad to here that the crank is working out well for you.

The text reads. ( The max wedge opening gains 20-25 cfm at the most. Runner streamlining of the inside radius are very senitive & must be perfectly smooth & of a continuoueous radius or flow seperation will result.)

My intake seems to work well, A good friend of mine told me that my .030 over 440 would be lazy with indy SRs and a max wedge port window.
Needless to say I am looking forword to taking him for a ride.

Darryl,

Thanks for posting that, my take is that the upper plenum needs very little work beyond the MW opening, (yuo'll notice the uppers flow better OOTB by and large), but the lower needs a lot of radius work both around the short side turns and the Plenum transitions. I actually slightly enlarged the Plenum on the lower half relative to the upper, that helps a bit as well.

When putting my combo together I really thought the 2d would be a cork with the Chap VI Maxies but with the work I did to the manifold I really don't think it's costing me much at all...of course if I ran a .700 Solid roller where I was maxing out he heads the big single would start paying off, So I'm leaving about 50-60HP on the table right now in terms of potential head flow, but that's mainly so she doesn't bust the seam welds out of my cherry 1/4 panels!!

I remember years ago seeing a 493 with -1 heads pull 686hp with a ~270-ish flat tap solid and a 4150 carb with only an OOTB port match so Up to the 700-720 range I think it's a very good piece that would make better average torque than a Single Plane.....Like I said not everybody wants to build an 80/20 Race/street 500" motor with 4.30 gears and 4500 stall where the single would work better overall....I would think the Majority of 500" builders want a more moderate gear/moderate stall motor with big fat mid-range (where you can really FEEL the extra cubes ALL OF THE TIME) so the 2D should really be strongly considered on anything that's more of a 50/50 street/race 3.50-ish geared 3200-3500 stall type build....Or as Darryl points out, it works great in the 440-470 range too.
