I like how the article states that former students wanted to come back
and redo driver's Ed, so they could drive the Cuda. laugh2
When I took that course through high school,
we had brand new '81 K cars on loan from the local Plymouth dealership. sleep BORING

The article is from the November-December 1970 issue of “Chrysler Times”, a mostly monthly sales rag sent out to C/P dealers. Not an exactly impartial news source. Look at who is writing and promoting the message in the context of what they are trying to sell. It is just inter-company back-slapping. Atta boy Dave Smith.

The article is fine, but it is just a puff piece from C/P pr to other sealers.

The link to the page that image was taken from is https://www.hamtramck-historical.com/photos-dealerships-4.shtml

The images hosted there are a better resolution AND you also get to see who helped build the digital archives there as well. This one came from the Al Mcdonald Collection as the caption on the site shows.

Thanks once again to Al! He has an amazing collection. beer

Mine was 1 hour a day for a week in high school (last period) in a red 1965 4 speed 2+2 Mustang 289 fastback. Gym teacher was instructor, once around the running track then he said heck you can drive let’s hit the streets. So everyday I drove all over the county outside our little town.

Speaking of 'Cuda's........

Back about '82 when I took Drivers Ed in school, one of the films we watched had a red and white Barracuda/'Cuda in it (don't remember which it was) and I'm almost certain it was a '70. With the advent of the interwebs and YouTube, I've searched for that film to no avail....... frowwn

We got discounts in car Insurace with drivers ed so took it. I already was driving work trucks with my learner permit. Chevy vans with straight 6 ans two extended DODGE van. All were 3 on tree amd one of tge Dodges did not have synchronised trans had to be stoped to put in 1st. Others ruined that trans they just ground it up. Granny low 1st could pull a load with the slant. If no load i drove it as 2 and 3rd since 1st got ya no where
And an old Nova 230 3 on tree.
We did class 1st and films. 1st day out some girl in the Firebird ran up a square curb and ruined the tire and rim. Boy was the teacher pissed.
He was shocked i could drive a stick on tree.

I took driver's ed in the summer of 72. Our regular car was a new 72 4 door coronet. The only mod I'm aware of was a brake pedal on the passenger side. All of the instructors were our high school teachers. One of the teachers would bring in his 40's Chevy with a 3 on the tree. Everyone had to take a lap around the parking lot. It was a hoot watching some of the kids trying to drive that thing.

As I mentioned earlier, we had K cars for our test driving. One old guy
who was the calculus/ trigonometry teacher...was a REAL hardass on everyone
who got stuck driving with him. He literally looked like a mad scientist...sorta like Doc Brown
from Back to the Future... but meaner. rant If you didn't do something right, he would scream at you! laugh2

Our school had a boring 1968 Ford Fairlane 4 door for a Driver Ed car.
It was used every school day except Tuesdays when the Sex Education class had to use it.

Still remember my driving test to get my license, we pull back into the place and the guy was telling me I passed (I had been driving my own car for over a year, so everything was second nature by then) but I watched as some kid, also on his test, was doing his final maneuver in dads full size late 80's Olds or Buick wagon, back into a parking spot. He totally missed the lines and took up two spots - he was then getting the "buck short and day late kid" talk from the instructor. Funny.
