'Pro Stock Motorcycle racer Angie Smith was involved in an accident during the second qualifying round at the NHRA Midwest Nationals outside of St. Louis, Mo.

Smith became separated from her bike shortly after passing the finish line at World Wide Technology Raceway. She came to a rest in the track's shutdown area.

NHRA officials confirmed Smith was alert and conscious and was examined by medical personnel before being transported to a local medical facility for further evaluation.

Reports say she went through the lights at 198mph and crashed right after that.

i was there today in the nitro section when alan reinhart anouced that rider came off the bike pass the finsh line.i watch other riders after that take there bikes back to the trailer.

My Son crash on one of his old road bikes and broke five ribs and two vertebras and was in a coma for 10 days, the big dummy still rides fast bikes on the road, he loves going fast on twisty canyon roads
It is my fault, I put him on small tote goat when he was 4 yrs. and taught him how to ride it
I stop riding on the roads and highways after almost getting pancake between a car and a pickup by a mom rushing to work that look right at me while I was crossing the intersection, she had stop for the stop sign and then started to pullout when I was beside her drivers door with a pickup stop at the intersection going the other way, it was four way stop intersections and I had my headlight on and I had the right away
Be careful out there, don't trust anyone to do the right thing while driving, especially women drivers

I was run into by 2 cars at diff times and a truck once.
3rd time i was done with bikes as no matter how safe you are some idiot is not.
She's lucky. Things like this may end her racing even if she recovers fully.

That’s a shame, hope she recovers. Ironically, the ads on my feed here are showing motorcycles for sale and biker clothing.

Saw a video posted on FB. She locked up the front brake and held it too long. The bike went over on the right side and trapped her under it. When she finally got loose she tumbled like a rag doll. If she had separated from the bike sooner she probably would have walked away.

If the rider can climb up on top of the sliding bike they will do a lot better on avoiding injuries until the sliding stops and the bike digs in and start flopping and slings rider off
The bad thing about riding any type of bike, motor driven or human powered is most car drivers are looking for other cars and trucks, not pedestrians and bicycle and motorcycle riders

I would suspect a malfunctioning brake as much as a misapplication. Certainly not her first rodeo.

First, thank you so much to Tony Stewart, Leah Pruett, Matt Hagan ,and David Hagan for arranging to have our Angie Smith Racing flown home on their private jet. She's already home and resting comfortably.

Second, if anyone is sticking back this weekend running the St. Louis divisional and can go check on Angie's bike, we'd greatly appreciate it...if we can figure out where it's actually located.

Just to let everyone know, NHRA confiscated Angie's bike after the wreck as they do with all racecars/bikes after accidents. Since then, we've been told three different times per the NHRA tech department that we've done everything they've asked for... including pulling data out of the bike and getting release papers from the hospital. We were happy to do all of this and we were told the bike would be released back to us and they still have yet to release the bike back to us.

Now, we don't know where the bike is at because it's been "taken off property" and we've got a big problem with that. No time have I ever known NHRA keeping anything more than a day after a wreck and why they would want to keep Angie's bike after a wreck is puzzling to me. A Pro Mod crashed yesterday and it was released to the team last night.

If anyone can help us locate this bike...we've asked NHRA for reasoning and all they have said is "legal" with no other explanations beyond that.

I have tried calling the president of the NHRA, Glen Cromwell, and I have received no return phone call. I'm just trying to figure out what's going on.

ANY help would be greatly appreciated. I was told we could get the bike after POMONA. This is not the time to confiscate bikes for long periods of time when we are in the heat of a championship battle and we could very well use the salvageable parts from the crash for our bikes. Parts alone are hard to get quickly right now. My wife is in a lot of pain right now and this is just adding to it.

First off very glad to see Angie doing well and hope to see her back racing soon. Seems like a weird deal for one bike to have a wheel lock up but I believe I saw Gaige Herrera having a similar issue but saved it in his final round of qualifying. I have never seen that issue before ? Impounding normal, location of bike not known is very fishy……I would really have a issue with that.

I recorded the race and watched it last night. It kinda sounds like the track surface is deteriorating pretty badly and needs addressing
