Oh man - I sure do remember Brooks. Probably the best 3rd baseman of all time. RIP Mr. Robinson.

Incredible third baseman. I immediately picture him diving to his right way into foul territory and coming up firing a bullet to first.

Class act.

Speaking of class acts; last night I was listening to former Major League Pitcher Dan Plesac. Another class act talking about the final pitch of his career. He struck out the final player he faced and did a small fist pump that wouldn't come close to today's ridiculousness. He said after the game he seeked out the pitcher and coach to apologize and explain to them it was his final pitch and he was retiring after 17 seasons and it was just a reaction! Class.

His nickname was “The Human Vacuum Cleaner”…. I have a newspaper picture from the early 70’s that I thought was just so cool…he is in mid air/mid slide into home plate, Thurman Munson from the Yankees is blocking the plate looking toward the throw from right or the first base cutoff man to make the tag…I’d post it but I cannot get to it due to stuff being packed away from a flood…but he was one reason I played 3rd on my teams…loved watching him play against my team, the NY Mets.
RIP Brooks Robinson.

I was but a youngster back then but I remember seeing the Orioles play at Memorial Stadium several times. Good memories from back then. My dad had this book on his book shelf though I never read it.

My Dad's cousin was Mark 'Blade' Belanger who played shortstop next to Robinson in the mid 60's and early 70's. If the ball you hit touched anywhere the infield against the Orioles....you might as well jog to first because you knew you were already out.
