I'm surprised there is no statute of limitations on a traffic accident. With that much obvious damage, and all the effort to hide the car, that looked unrepairable, why did he not just cut it up? Who gets the $50K reward? Regardless, I'm happy for the break in the case.
Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.

Is that true for the hit and run aspect, or any traffic accident?

Is that true for the hit and run aspect, or any traffic accident? It varies state to state and it would depend on what the driver is charged with (how the accident occurred), but in Florida here's a general guide Felonies that result in death None Capital or life felonies (and perjury related to such a felony) None Other first degree felonies Within four years of when the crime was committed Second and third degree felonies Within three years of when the crime was committed First degree misdemeanors Within two years of when the crime was committed Second degree misdemeanors Within one year of when the crime was committed

So accident causes the fatal injury, that is not a felony based on evidence shared so far, correct? The hit and run is a felony, but that did not cause the accident nor the fatality, and is after the accident, and I suspect the injury initially was fatal based on the pictured cars damage. I am of course assuming the driver did not hit the boy intentionally, nor was rip roaring provable drunk, and not during an armed robbery getaway, etc. Wonder how they are putting this accused behind the wheel. Don't mis understand my skepticism here, if I can ask it, so can a defense lawyer, I'm sure much of the above is settled law, but I haven't a clue what it is.

You're absolutely right, and with the injury it's a second or third degree felony but so much depends on other circumstances. Admittedly I didn't read the article but they would have to put him behind the wheel to be charged or he/she admits. Witnesses can put someone behind the wheel but that's going to be tough after this amount of time, if there were any witnesses.

crazy. no one knew that this clown dove a white neon that he all of the sudden wasn't driving. and seriously living with that for so long? couple has no conscience i guess. and why sit on the car so long. cut that [censored] up and dispose of it slowly if you were gonna do what you did. my guess is the driver was drunk when he hit the kid. Some of the comments are saying the car wasn't registered to them, but after the crash they quickly bought another one and placed it in their driveway. Not sure how true that is probably never hear the full story. very strange

Although this wasn't all that long ago, the increased use of cameras almost everywhere nowadays helps so much in these cases.

Here's an update to this story and it's bizarre: https://kitchener.ctvnews.ca/opp-bo...-to-re-enact-fatal-hit-and-run-1.6578079Takes a special kind of stupid, heartless, etc., person to buy a duplicate of the car involved in the accident, swap plates and the VIN, to hide what they did. Mike.

So who turned them in? "Acting on a tip" There's probably a lot of details that won't surface about this. Someone must have seen something when the accident first happened otherwise, how would the police have known a white 1995-1997 Neon was involved? That's pretty specific info.
