I got the car all buttoned up today and fired it off. New trans with billet steel drum and T-brake V/body by Tranzact. While going through the gears on the jackstands it seems to hit hard on the 1-2 shift but almost stops the wheels completely and shakes the car pretty good on the 2-3 shift. I backed the band adjuster a 1/4 turn and it seems to make a slight improvement.

I'm unable to take it for a ride because of where I live. So I haven't test driven it yet.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Up on the jack stands is not a good indicator. Put the adjustment back to where it was and then drive it.

I would adjust the band per the instructions. on the jack stands it doesn't mean a lot.

I'd like to know the answer as well. When we had that happen the only change that caused it was swapping to a different valvebody. In this case we went from a stock VB with a Trans-Go kit to a Fairbanks manual VB.

by design the TF has overlap , once you screw with factory settings of spring count , pressure and clutch clearance you change the timing and the potental to feel the overlap .

Also as stated above ... for fear of another fest ... on jackstands is not a good indicator of how the trans is reacting .

The 2-3 overlap (bind-up) is caused by the front clutches applying before the band is fully released. I would ensure you follow TranzAct transbrake instructions. Usually it recommends adding springs to all 15 posts in the direct clutch. Using a 3.8 or 4.2 lever, never a 5.0. Adjust kickdown band to a typical snug, back off 1-1/2 turns. Ensure front clutch clearance is set to recommended specs using a FLAT selective snap ring. Also, to port the high clutch feed hole if a '71-up reaction shaft support is used. Use 2 springs in the kickdown servo (1970-down). On a Pro Brake, drill a 1/16" bleed hole in the front drum or front clutch piston for front clutch exhaust assistance (transbrake release).
