You know you hear people that have made that change and some people make outrageous claims about their performance after switching . I'd like to hear your real world experience's. I switched from a 1040 cfm pro systems gas carb. to a pro systems 1040 cfm alcohol carb. with me in the car. Best et on gas 6.18, 1.34 @ 60, 113.6 mph. Still tuning on the alcohol set up 6.01, 1.30 @ 60, 111 mph. I think with tuning I can get 5.99, 1.28 @ 60, and 112 mph on alcohol. These et's were with the ambient temp between 97 and 100 degrees leaving the starting line at 2910 lbs

A good friend's camaro ran mid 5.70s on alcohol w/ an 825 cfm Demon carb. Ran high 5.80s on 112 race gas w/ a 1050 dominator. I don't remember the MPH, but the 60' was about .03 quicker on alcohol also. The dominator was never 100% sorted out, but it was close. This was a 3,000 lb '87 camaro, 436" sb chevy (all motor), powerglide, ladder bars, 9", etc.

Methanol is very forgiving. You can run them pig fat and milk oil, and even run too much timing and it deals with it pretty well. Just dont run it lean.... It also makes more torque than gas. What I have found is the worse your gas setup is, the more you will pick up. I changed my car years ago from a sorted out 1040 Pro systems gas carb to alky injection and did not even pick up a tenth. And water content in the air (humidity) is most important when running alky.

I keep lots of other information. But it's not necessary for this tread You were asking about the changes I made to the car.

it's a low compression engine 11.2 to 1. cranking compression is also kind of low 220 psi. it has conventional LA style heads and a crower 31409 camshaft

moparacer, I think the reason my car picked up so much is that the converter [ on gas ] was probably a little too tight. I've not changed jetting in the carb from the pro systems setting. Have not changed the timing or shift points from my gas tune up so far. My oil is not milking and I'm able to build heat in the engine , even without using the leanout valve. but I am concerned about my mph.

I thought methanol is rather toxic and absorbed thru the skin. That being said, I don't know why I am alive many decades after running it with Benzene, Nitro etc as a 12-year-old in my MC101 go kart without a glove, etc within miles. It was BTW a great fuel.
Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.
