Guys,
I have a question regarding my rearend swap in the 56 Coronet.

I have tacked the 56 rearend spring perches onto a 69 B body rear. I put them on the 69 rear at the same angle that they were on with the 56 rear. My question is regarding the pinion bolt height. Before it was 13 1/8" off the floor, but with the new rear it is 13" off the floor. Everything else on the car is the same (jacks, etc.)

Should I leave it alone, or should I break the tack welds loose and rotate the axle to get the pinion bolt at the same height, which would change the pinion angle from what it was before?

Thanks

Is the u joint location on the 69 rear axle the same distance from the axle centerline as it is in the 56 or is it a bit longer? I'm thinking a 1/4" longer distance from the axel centerline to the end of the yolk would make up the difference in the hight.

An 1/8" can be a lot of degrees in pinoin angle if the centers are the same length, unless your holding the tape measure at a slight different angle then it was with the first measurement. I would probably set the weight on the axle and measure the angles just to be sure, that is the only way you will know for sure. Not much help, I know, but that is what I would do. Gene

my thoughts would be to just clamp the rear into position and measure the pinion angle with the weight on the wheels. then rotate the rear up or down to get the desired angle. tack in place, then remove for final welding.

What is the pinion angle supposed to be? Also, what is the easiest way to measure it?

Thanks for the replies.

Well, I was just reading on a website (hot rodders) that it should be between 1 and 3 degrees, and the angle between the driveline and the transmission output should be about the same (1 to 3 degrees). I don't have a driveline for the vehicle yet (have to have one made), and the transmission is out of the vehicle right now. I'll bolt it up temporarily and wait until the engine and transmission are in the car.

there has been many posts on these pages on how to set pinion angle, depending on what rear suspension you have. maybe rodstrace, poorboy, or mopar ron can post a ling to previous posts ?

Thanks guys.

I checked the tech section and did a search, but I am sure I typed the wrong words into the search. That is a huge help.

Thanks again.
