Ok, this is minutia legal question. I fully understand the shared opinions here will cover the full spectrum, and that is OK by me.
I have an original Florida tag in very good condition from 1962. Florida has a procedure to legally use the tag if it's the same year as the car if it weighs under 5,000lbs. You must send it to the Capital DMV for authentication, to verify condition and approval with fees, proof of insurance, etc. There are other portions of Fla statues that seem to consider an Authenticated tag as a "personalized" tag, not sure how they make that leap or if I am interpreting that wording correctly.
The tag in question in essence reads "XXX- 666".
So does this previously issued tag warrant a valid "objection" by anybody if used on another's car?
It is not clear, if it can be confiscated prior to registration because of an objection, do I still own the tag outright after submission but prior to authentication, do I have any due process here or who becomes the true owner of the tag once registered.
FS 320.0805 (4) The department is authorized to reject requests deemed by it to be objectionable, and the department is further authorized to recall, during a registration period, any issued personalized license plate determined by it to be obscene or otherwise objectionable.
FS320.0805 (8)(a)1. "Personalized prestige license plates shall consist of three types of plates as follows: 1.A plate imprinted with numerals only. Such plates shall consist of numerals from 1 to 999, inclusive."
Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.

Some will just slip by while others get snagged by an auditor. I had a friend in High School who got by with "Beej Me" for his Florida tag.

A buddy had the personalized license plate "KLR-BEE on his 1970 Dodge Super Bee for years here in Missouri.
He went to renew it and it was denied, because it used what was seen as the word "Killer" which apparently was now objectionable by whom even does the approvals. The fact that he had been using that for 20+ years meant nothing.
IIRC now his plate say "STUNG" which isn't nearly as cool as KLR-BEE on a yellow Super Bee.
Kayse can't keep up at all now. lol

I tried to get "6SIX6" for my Demon as a personalized plate but was refused due to it being deemed potentially offensive. Funny thing is, the only reason I was getting it spelled that way was because "666" was already taken. Who knows what goes on in the mind of a bureaucrat....

I have a friend with an FM3 T/A Challenger. He went to get plates for "Pink T/A" and it was refused on the basis that:
1) Dodge never make a T/A, only Pontiac 2) It was vulgar
So he made the trek to Bismarck with all kind of ads and photos from 1970 and eventually he did get the plates but it was a fight.

Back in the late 70s the State of Illinois issued XXX-666 to a guy in town's Vette. He never requested it.

If you know someone within the DMV, it will pass with no issues.

I recently saw an Iowa plate on an F150 that read "9INCHES". Because that's how far an f-150 will drive before needing to be towed

I read an article about personalized plates somewhere. There was a guy that wanted the plate to say "HOOKER". They would usually refuse it but it was the guys last name. I saw a plate that had three #'s and these three letters "F" "A" "G". It wasn't a personalized plate but that got by them. I was wondering why the owner didn't object to it? The owner probably thought it was "FABULOUS"!

Friday morning, I for the umptieth time called the State DMV in Tallahassee, first time rang busy, quickly tried again and it started ringing, it was machine answered and I sat on hold for 40? mins. Then the first person I spoke to in over two dozen attempts, redirected me to another after I explained my area of concern. Second person after going over in greater detail of my situation, directed me to another higher up?, who was helpful, and courteous and informative. Even though she was not certain who actually owns the tag once submitted, even if rejected, she felt these were only "numbers" and did not see a problem. She even gave me her direct line if I any had future issues. If I learn more I will get back.

When talking about inefficiency and waste, the DMV is right near or at the top.

Wonder what the outcome would be if he changed his name to "GRABHIM"?
Article wasn't clear, does "revoke" mean they confiscated the tag, or just suspended its legal use?

Definitely suspended its legal use, by not renewing the registration with that plate, but I've not known the local government to ever confiscate an expired plate (not saying it doesn't happen). I would guess it's probably up on his wall somewhere.
