My buddy did the Rolls Royce Griffon V12 in this vintage unlimited. Miss Canada IV. It held a Water Speed Record briefly in 1950 set in Picton Ont at 173 mph.

I remember seeing several drivers die in those boats on T.V. when they blew over One of the guys I worked with race the smaller outboard driven hydroplanes, they ended up using ejection cockpits from U.S. military fighter aircraft after several of their drivers dying in crashes
Mr.Cab Racing and winning with Mopars since 1964. (Old F--t, Huh)
A Griffon ?! I can imagine how glorious that thing sounded - big Merlin & Griffon fan, and I miss the "proper" engines in the hydros. A buddy/mentor & I ran a couple tunnel-hulls back in the late '70s, and yeah, the blow-overs were something you'd think about. Lots of finger-dancing on the outdrive controls to keep the thing on plane; you could feel the boat getting light and the hear the RPM & prop speed pick up when the thing was about to swap genres, so to speak. Couple years of that and we went back to things with tires...
