They owe the taxpayers some $$$ for the wasted efforts. It's especially egregious when there are so many legitimate searches for missing kids.

They obviously didn't follow those up very thoroughly !! The kid and his mother were probably wondering "how long can we fool these assholes!". It also begs the question of what was to be gained from his alleged disappearance.
