I've heard nothing but good things about them. No clutches to wear out. Planning on having one installed in whatever rear end I end up with ... which brings me to my latest thread ...

I have has one in the Cuda for a few years now. No track time but I run drag radials. Has been fine, but I haven't been really hard on it either.

I've ran one for 5 years in my Dakota (9 1/4" axle) and it's doing fine.
The Jeep crowd has figured out some guidelines
Max tire 33"
No rear gear ratios below 3.23~
Hope this helps

I'm a fan of Detroits. Not that I've ever heard anything bad about the Trutrac, but I'm used to how Detroits act and I'm ok with their quirks.

one thing to keep in mind on trutrac rear end.
DON'T USE SYNTHETIC GEAR LUBE with them.

I just started running a center section from Dr. Diff with his helical gear differential, so far it's been awesome: https://www.doctordiff.com/8-3-4-helical-gear-sure-grip-sure-trac.html

He had issues getting consistent quality true tracs so makes his own now.

I put one in a friends 8.8 Ford rear , I don't remember if we used synt. oil or dino juice but when we went to do an oil change after about 15k miles mostly daily driver miles with some drag racing behind a stick trans, the oil was filled with metal particles. He had 2 rears so we swapped the stock one back in and when I went to take it apart to see what the issue was I couldn't get one of the C clips out , had to do some grinding and after getting out the clip I had to beat the axle out of the diff. When I finally got it out I disassembled the unit and best I could tell was the unit was put together backwards, we used it right out of the box , and the thrust of the helical gears was being applied against the the wrong side of the diff housing and was grinding it self up. He called Eaton and they said sorry, but you can buy another ... it was over a year since buying it. I still have the unit, I'll dig it out and get some pictures ...

We replaced it with a grizzly locker and put a set of road race locker springs in it so it wasn't as harsh on the street if it was damp out , daily driver.

I would either use a clutch type or a grizzly/Detroit locker before any trutrack.

running up my post count some more .

I recently got a doctor diff one, but haven't installed it yet.
Does anyone know what the torque bias ratio this has?

I am considering ordering a dana 60 from Cass and was thinking this might be the way to go. I figured by the time I ordered everything for the 8 3/4, I could just go all-in and get the dana.

I dont have any experience with a Trutrac but I like to use the Powerlok differential like the 68 and older 8 3/4's used, you can set them up aggressive or normal depending on how you want it. Dr Diff has reproduced them so you might think about these unless you have already made your decision.

Talk to Dr. Diff. You'll see on his website that he no longer carries the Eaton Truetrac due to quality issues.

I bought one several years ago, and it was junk. From what I could find it seemed to only be a problem with the MOPAR 8 3/4 version.
It's been a while, but I'm pretty sure the problem was with end play in the side gears. They're supposed to be a tight fit in the case, but the one I got had 0.045" end play in one of the side gears. That means that gear would be constantly banging back-and-forth by 0.045" every time you accelerated or decelerated.
I bought one of Dr. Diff's proprietary units, the Sure-Trac II. As I recall, (check with him to see if I recall correctly ) he makes them from Ford 9 inch units, which he orders unfinished and machines them to fit 8 3/4 bearings and ring gears.
Here is the link that was provided above by 83hurstguy:
https://www.doctordiff.com/8-3-4-helical-gear-sure-grip-sure-trac.html
Bottom line, I definitely do not recommend the Eaton Truetrac.

Robert

Out of stock for quite some time now. I wanted one and a offset spring kit no dice on both.

Sorry to hijack this thread. I have a powerlock unit in a 741 case, 8&3/4 center section with 2.94 gears. I've had it for years but it's time to start house cleaning and this has to go. I'll let it go cheaply and delivery to Carlisle is possible. I know this should go in the parts for sale section but I thought it might get a quicker response here. A PM would be best. Thanks for your patience. Tom

64 Max, I don't think you are sorry. In response to the original question, I have had a Tru Trac in my car since 2012 and I have had no issues and it seems to work as designed.

I have a tru trac in my swinger and have had no problems with it. I talked to dr diff after seeing his post about having problems with them. The issue with them was tolerances and they would wine. I asked if I was going to have issues down the line and he said if there was a problem it would be obvious right away. I dont have many miles on it but so far so good. The second one I bought from him was the one he had made. I haven't installed it yet but it looks like a really well made part.

Anyone have experience in how a Truetrac 2wd vehicle does on icy or snowy pavement?
