next on my list of neglected things to do is Gutter guards. I'm getting to the age the wife doesn't like me on the roof anymore so something to keep the šŸ’© out of the gutters is going to be needed on the house. There are so many different ones out there that all claim to be the best until you research those that have them. I'd prefer to only do them once so I thought I would get some HONEST good or bad feedback from actual users here. BTW this is what happens when you own your own business for 20+ years. When you decide to semi retire all the cr-p you've neglected has to be dealt with frown Once done though I can get back to the hobby I've missed wink
Any inputs good or bad greatly appreciated. beer

I bought stuff from lowes 3 years ago and haven't had to do much at all.

It's a hard plastic mesh with screening behind it. One edge slips under the roofing the other clips to the gutter. Not expensive and easy to install.

I bought the ones Costco sells . Put 'em on my shop, my house and my daughter's house. Been on mine for about 5 years. I love 'em. BUT regardless of the brand you may occasionally have to sweep of blow stuff that sits on them - depends what kind of trees you have around you. In my area the problem seems to be more with the crap that falls off the trees in the spring as opposed to fall leaves.

Agree totally about owning a business Iā€™m in same boat with hundreds of things to fix. Gutter guards is at top of list, after I cut the maple trees out of the gutters.

Until a year ago I had gutter helmets on mine. My house is surrounded by trees, both leafed and pines. For 20 years the helmets worked flawlessly and never needed any maintenance.
Had a new roof installed last year and the roofers would not put them back up, but did put new mesh gutter guards on. I spent an hour yesterday blowing maple seeds out of them. I pulled a downspout tube off and it was full of pine needles.
Yes, I miss the gutter helmets and am saving up for a new set.

This is a major pet peeve. Did they kindly dispose of them too but yet charged you for the mesh? If so how generous of them.
Those have a lifetime warranty and so the roofers owe you some money.

Agreed! Why did they not want to put them back on? I would have complained loudly about that. Best thing to do in that case is to deduct what they cost from the check that you wrote to the roofer. I get so tired of contractors that pull crap like that.

i had a quote from leaf filters - they do a $hitload of ads on tv/newspaper - the fellow comes over... 1st price $7600bucks... i said WOW... a bit..lot more then i wanted to spend, he does a quick calculation, and says he can reduce the price to 5500bucks... again i say seems excessive, and after talking for 5-10mins he says he remind me of his dad, and will give me the price he would give his dad....$2500... i told him i have to think about it..

it looks like a decent product...but .. to come from 7600 bucks down to 2500 made me leery.... i have a brand new roof and gutters, and still looking for an alt.

That would have been the average no fuse home owner price the 1st time.

The homeowner has a clue second price.

The home owner knows his stuff, lets make a sale, last price.

There is one more price available, its the we got to make this sale price.

Call the salesman back and get his best price, since he thinks he has lost the sale, and see what it is.

My nephew just purchased a house with gutter guards on , the leaves, pine needles etc. stay out of the gutters but they appear to accumulate and stick right on top of the gutter guards. He know has to go and clean all the debris from the guards so IMO what's the point of the guards if you still have to go remove debris from them? I have heard this about the gutter guards but now have seen it for myself.

My house has the basic wire mesh guards. They work better than I would have imagined, the only issue I have is the leaves and crap will pile up in the corners where there is a splash guard. In the fall and spring I have to clean those areas out a few times but I am not sure any gutter guard could prevent that.

In my experience gutter guards just change WHERE the debris accumulates. This still may be a welcomed improvement as the downspout will not be clogged. But you will still be required to go up and remove stuff- leaves in the Fall are the absolute worst- guards or no guards.

Keep old mopars alive.

Leaf Filter is a company built on lies and scamming people - mainly senior citizens - they sell a product that's maybe is worth $5 a foot for $35 - they do the hard sell tactics - just like the window replacement and siding contractors.
