I don’t know if there were changes throughout the production run, but my MP catalog shows them using the 292 Hyd cam.

thx Fast .....its hyd roller that looks like it has a cast steel gear.... I’ve never seen any type of roller cam for a BBM/Hemi that wasn’t steel. Steel cams are not compatible with stock iron oil pump drive gears.

I don’t believe those engines ever came with HR cams. If you’re sure it’s a roller cam, then it should be a steel core........ which would require an upgraded drive gear.
Wearing one of the bronze ones out in 5k isn’t all that unusual.
These days, many are opting to use a melonized steel gear instead of bronze.....especially for the street & street/strip stuff.

I'm stunned there is no "street friendly" hydraulic roller cam for a Hemi yet? My buddy wears out bronze intermediate gears regularly, the melonized gear a couple times. I wanted a hydraulic roller or roller for mine but I don't know how to solve the intermediate gear issue !!?!

Edelbrock sells a hydraulic roller G2 Hemi camshaft, that they claim supports 700hp on a 528 with their heads. Typically hydraulic lifters aren't used much in serious hemi engines because the valve-train is super heavy and the lifters don't work well, rpm is limited etc. I had a somewhat mild solid roller ground for my 540 Hemi (not running yet) and I'm hoping a melonized gear will function well with the steel cam core. I plan to drive it on the street a lot.

Depends where it came from.
Cummins Recon one was the 292 hydraulic flat tappet.
Barton one had no catalogued specs and was not even available as a service part for the engine, I never agreed with that decision and thought it was ridiculous. But, it was also a hydraulic flat tappet.
They came with the regular gear on the intermediate shaft.
I put a Crane street roller in my 572.
