Just Rolled In... it's like a documentary of why I'm not in auto repair anymore.
If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

Just Rolled In... it's like a documentary of why I'm not in auto repair anymore. 100% Truth. You get the work order, it says replace four tires, but then the job comes in and the suspension is practically falling off the car, there's no exhaust, driver is sitting on a bucket and only one tail light works. So you suggest some repairs for OTHER peoples' safety - only to get reamed out by the knowledgeable owner about how he takes good care of his automobile. Not that I stayed in auto repair for very long; but the amount of times I heard "Just change the oil, I can't afford the filter" was gut-wrenching. But then I guess I was on the receiving end not long ago with that one mechanic who felt that 1/4" wheel spacers were deadly and he refused to do any work to my car after that and he didn't want his "Red Seal" name attached to it. Never heard of a "Red Seal" mechanic before.... Welder yes, but not a mechanic. Maybe I am out of the loop.

Its refreshing to see that not much has changed in the automotive industry.
At my shop, I did things the way I thought they should be done. If the "customer" didn't like the way I was going to do something, they were not going to be my customers. Point blank and up front, before it came in the door. My shop, my way, or take it elsewhere.
I was never in a position to need to compromise my process to make a cheapskate customer happy, by cutting a corner that shouldn't be cut. I had the same attitude concerning credit. I was not running a bank. Tough times increase your resolve every time you survive them. People only want you to compromise when you are in a hard place, don't fall for it! When things are going great, save a little back to carry you through the hard times that will come, makes it easier to be in a place where you do not have to compromise.
Seemed to have worked out for me, 28 years running my own shop before I retired and closed the doors. I didn't sell my business because I would have had no control over how a new owner might have run it into the ground.

The traditional Sunday morning cable TV shows such as Stacey Davids Gearz and Horsepower TV still worship at the altar of E3 Sparkplug paychecks.
Fixed that

No 1/2 or 1/4 azz repairs. had several want to replace one wheel cylinder/ caliper etc. You make maybe 100 on the repair, they take out a school bus full of underprivileged children and you'll have the ambulance chasers beating your door down. Or they'll be back claiming you screwed something else up

i have witnessed some of those "repairs". thanks for sharing that ! Right up there with SLICK 50, and Split fire spark plugs Remember those 💩🙄. If all these bogus product claims were true i would think the major manufacturer's would be all over them slicing warranty costs and upping MPG, HP and other things split fire plugs are still advertised on the ol' boob tube ! The traditional Sunday morning cable TV shows such as Stacey Davids Gearz and Horsepower TV still worship at the altar of E3 Sparkplugs. I spent maybe 100 hours or more experimenting with Bosch Plus 4 sparkplugs https://www.amazon.com/Bosch-Automo...;hvtargid=pla-4583451678788130&psc=1I even tried cutting off the one of the 4 electrodes that randomly ended up nearest the hot exhaust valve. The tiny tip Iridium alloy sparkplugs seem to be able to fire the biggest gap, and last the longest in service, paying for themselves. “Booster Gap” design sparkplugs are quite an old design that have merit. These have a spark gap hidden inside the plug before the gap you can see. “Fires in Oil” spark plug extensions are interesting in that they can help locate a specific cylinder which is pinging/detonating. Moving the spark into a “cubbyhole” is like individual cylinder ignition retard. Two spark plugs per cylinder is the best improvement. An MIT masters degree student went beyond 2 plugs per cylinder, up to an astounding 13 plugs per cylinder, and amazingly found measurable improvement with each additional plug per cylinder. Saab tried a long spark that started at the plug center tip and ended on the piston top. Like many here on Moparts, my first spark related “mod” was buying the original MSD multi-spark box in the 1970s. That MSD is all time undefeated champion for creating RFI.
