Seems I have enough pieces laying around to make this happen but apparently not. Crank pilot is 1.55 and TQ is 1.81. I have a pushbutton 904 that the TQ is the correct pilot, but the input splines are different. If I put the front and rear drums from the pushbutton into the 78 will I run into pump problems? should I just swap all 3. The push button is a rear pump jobby. The 78 is at least a non-lockup.

I'm assuming '66 A with modern rod shifter type linkage & the eng is a 66. Ideally you would want a 66(maybe 67?) 904. A custom TC(not practical)or a later(1968 & up) crank into the 66 /6(probably not practical). I do not know about swapping the trans internals. Best would be to find a later /6 in good shape & use the 78 trans/TC. would need to use the 66 pan/pickup/mtr mts/insulators otherwise it drops in.

would a 66-67 TC have have fine or coarse splines. I need fine spline with the smaller pilot to make it happen.

Isn't there room to have the crank machined to accept the larger converter hub?

theres no stock TC that will work on the early /6 crank & the later 904. The trans input spline dia/#'s changed along with the TC hub diameter at the same time.

That is why I asked if the crankshaft can't be machined to take the newer converter hub. Just the reversal if installing a pilot bushing for a manual transmission.

762 is the common rebuilder's number for a '68-up 904 converter used with the /6 and 318, it has the 1.810" pilot hub so it won't work on the pre-'68 crank with a 1.550" register.

The 762 "S" might be a special built hybrid with a smaller pilot hub, never seen one but........

762s is in my Dacco book as 27 spline 1.55 pilot. Says fits 60-67 engine with 68-up 27spline non-lockup trans. they also make a 762x which is 18spline 60-67 trans with 1.81 pilot for 68-up engine.

I found and downloaded the Dacco catalog, I didn't know that anybody offered a hybrid but I do now. Great problem solver.
