Early 70's yes. I hated when they went to all the tiny and imported body styles (i.e. Colts, Arrows, Challengers/Mitsubishi), Vegas, Pintos, Mustang II's etc.

When NHRA started adding weight onto the engine combinations that were winning and allowing Jenkins to put a V8 into a Vega ended the fairness of heads up racing in Pro Stock rant puke down
Looking at that class now maybe they should encourage some other brands with favorable policies like they did in the past stirthepotwhistling devil

Mr.Cab Racing and winning with Mopars since 1964. (Old F--t, Huh)

And now they're just homemade inventions by rich kid professionals, with big dumb drone engines with no relatable identity for the average guy

The process known as "factoring" which basically meant the teams had to change brands and/or build a complete new car every six months. Ruined the class for me until they went with the present cubic inch/weight limit.

Interestingly I just watched footage of the very early 80's and it was the world finals first round. 16 cars and 12 were (second gen) Camaros, one Ford (Glidden's Farimont), 2 Hemi Arrows and Roy Hill's Omni, So the "Pro Camaro" trend of the past 6-7 years really wasn't very much different 40 years ago.

At least the 70's had a lot more brand diversity, which to me made it much more fun and interesting.

Yep, and notice how the class fizzled out

I agree 100%.

And once the nhra got "cookie cutter" in Pro Stock and all the different cars and combos went away...that let to the huge rise in the popularity of the IHRA Mountain Motor "run what you brung" style of Pro Stock....And the NHRA got skeered because many of the Top P/S drivers like Glidden, and WJ jumped over to IHRA.....and even Ronnie Sox jumped back in and ran the old Dean Thompson 814" Mustang (that was painted similar to the old Mopar Missle).

That was arguably even MORE exciting than 70's NHRA racing. It was a great time to live in the south in my early 20's if you were a Pro Stock Fan,
